If I brought home an orange wing my wife would probably stab it with my dive knife. She hates all things orange becuase she associated that color with the University of Tenn. which she despises.

What does he need that for?
Has anyone heard of Deep Outdoors?
Hmm lets see...the name of this thread is Deep outdoors BC!

I have a Matrix. Nice rig a little bulky though.

The weight pockets they make for it are huge. Room for more weight than I'll ever need. And they thread onto both waist straps so you can't use the other strap for something else like a pocket, knife, etc.

And the wings aren't that great for single tanks.

I was in the process of trying to scale it down a little. Was goig to put smaller pockets on it and get a smaller Halcyon wing, but wound up getting the whole BP and harness too.

Love the new rig. I'm an official BP convert. I think the Deep Outdoors rig may be going on ebay soon.

Let me know what you get for it, I got a Matrix with Double 95lb bladder with like 5 dives. It will likely end up on ebay too.

I'll have to side with Grunzster at the moment. The weight pockets are way too big for any thing that I'll need as well. However with a 6lb backplate and a 2lb STA, that leaves 12 pounds which may be going to a weight belt. It may be a little bulky as well "compared to BP-Wings". How about their freedom harness with backplate?

Someones post always gets edited before I get to see it. For all I know, I was just flamed!

Haven't heard anything about the Freedom.
Looks nice and comfy, and much less bulky than the Matrix, but now that I have a harness, I really don't see the need for all the extra straps, quick releases, etc. If you really want you can always get those pads for the shoulder straps on any harness.

I actually have a DeepOutdoors BC.

It takes about 5-10 dives to find your personal comfort zone with the harness. After that it DOES NOT SHIFT. It just does not move, its like a second skin. It is a very comfortable bc with single or doubles. The redundant bladder is great .

Another plus is that the design for the harness is very easy on the back if you have to walk in a long ways for a shore dive. It rides just like a back pack. Shoulders and hips don't get cut into.

With all the D rings it is easy to clip on a stageing bottle or other gear. It is a overall well thought out system the LP inflator buttons and oral inflation mouth piece could be better designed though. But it is still easy to add and dump air when needed.

With a steel tank I don't use much in the weight pockets so i use one to stow my dive slate and small light

The Integrity is great for single tanks. A weight pocket on eather side helps stop the tipping effects at the surface. But since it is welded construction you can't swap bladders.

The matrix with the Stantard harness is very versitle easy to change bladders, etc. better suted for doubles

Great BC. I use mine for work(Matrix) and sport(Integrity)

I have a lot of experience with the Matrix and quite a few of the folks at my shop have been using the Freedom BP.

The reason I bought the Matrix was due to sheer comfort. What sold me on it was wearing two 40 cu ft deco bottles along with a set of double 120's and being very comfortable with all that on land.

After diving with it all season now I have come to dislike a few things about it. 1) there are to many items ie. shoulder straps adjust you have three attachment points across your chest and to many d rings to have to deal with. All these attachment points across ones chest are more chances of something going wrong. My point being proven two weeks ago when the wife and co owner of the local diveshop was diving the rig and one of the shoulder quick disconnects came disconnected underwater at the local quarry. 2) Their is a bit of tank roll that goes on with it. You just can't get it tight enough to avoid this.

In regards to bladders. DO makes several. They make a single tank 35# a single/double 40#, 55# & 85#. I have an orange 85# bladder. I do not like the sewn in bungees. I have trouble at times with the air trapping in little pockets and it throwing off my trim.

I am going to be honest. I am buying right now an Oxycheq 70# wing and a Koplin backplate along with a continuous 2" webbing. This set up lends itself to avoiding the tank rolling due to a tighter fit along with less chances of failure. It also is much cleaner and easier to use IMHO.

The Matrix overall has done me good all season with the wreck diving off of Jersey as well as NC. I am looking to continue my Tech training and want to keep things as streamlined and simple as possible now at this point. The Matix is not simple with all its connection points and d rings.

I hope this has given some a better look into the pros and cons of this new BC system.

:)

That was an excellent post. Just about how I feel about it at this point, however I have yet to enter any tech courses. There does seem to be too much going on with the Matrix. I did like the idea of it being a go between the traditional BC and the BP/Wings but needless to say it isn't there.

Hi Guys!

Trying to set my wife up with a BC. She's tried the Zena Zeagle and likes it (290/LPro). Our LDS also sells Deep Outdoors BC without weight integration (although it has speace for about 6 lbs in pouches on the tank straps) and made for a woman (Serenity I think is the model) for 125. Weight pouches would run about 140 total. So plus tax it's very close to the Zena. Or there's the weight integrated version for 600+. I'm in favour of weight integration and the rear inflate (I dive a Ranger).

Any thoughts or opinions on this brand? I'd never heard of them before.

Thanks,

Steve
