I wanted to take a quick moment to share my takeaways from my first dive with my new Deep 6 regulator setup.I have already shared my take on their superb customer service so I will keep this one strictly about the regs.
La Jolla Shores, CA
Temp: 57 F
Visibility: 30-40ft (Superb for the Shores)
Max Depth: 85fsw

It has been somewhat of a crazy couple of weeks here. We have had multiple storm systems passing through yet the ocean remains flat and the visibility impressive. Perfect for checking out a new set of regs. Upon entry there was zero free flow, I will report back the next time we are taking overheads on the way out. Pre-dive was set and adjustment knobs all the way in. I switched to dive mode and screwed the adjustment knob to about 50% upon decent. My previous regulators were Hollis DC1/212's, so most of my comparison is to those. From the get go, the ease of breathing was noticed with each inhalation. I could practically feel the reg snap closed when I exhaled, yet the next breath just as easy to draw. My old regs used to breathe with little effort but, felt sloppy, light weight and cheap. They would tend to slightly free flow sometimes also (purchased new). Not these. I no longer heard that strange high pitch metallic sound from the first stage when I took my air. It was so quiet I could literally hear the distinct sound of air leaving the tank. Maybe all of this is normal for some. For me, it was an immediate since of confidence that I had made the right decision in purchasing these top notch regulators. The inhalation effort was consistent down to our max depth of 85fsw. I played with the adjustment knob at several points during my dive each time stopping to breathe at 25, 50, 75, and 100%. I can't really express the difference these regs have and will continue to make for my diving. I could go on and on about these things. I am very pleased with my decision to make the switch to D6 and hope that this helps others to take a chance on @cerich and crew. They truly have made an unbelievable product at a great value. Quick side note... I was also testing my new D6 Eddy fins for the first time and WOW!

Did you try opening the adjustment knob all the way (easiest breathing)? If so, does it leak air when open all the way? What did you think of it when open all the way?

I did open the knob all the way. I did not notice any leaking. Just a very very effortless breath.

Not overwhelming "gushing" of air into your lungs?

Haha! Nope. Are you referencing a bad experience with another reg? Or implying I should have had free flow when adjusted all the way out?

I also came from Hollis DC1/212. Couldn't agree more with your statements. I am loving my Deep6 regs. Not to mention the PHENOMENAL customer service by Chris and his team.

no you should not have freeflow adjusted all the way out. Some brands do not Deep 6

Some regulators I tried in the past (NOT related to Deep6 in any way at all), the cracking pressure adjustment was poorly designed that the SS becomes unstable and would leak air when the adjustment is opened all the way. Better regulators don't do that of course.

Got it! That was definitely the case with my previous regs. It was really quite unnerving having micro bubbles pushing themselves out of my lips at 100+ fsw. Definitely not the case with these.

The Hollis 212 seemed to try and force air into my mouth. At depth I had to actually put my tongue against the mouthpiece to try and block the flow of air. No such issues with the Deep 6.
