That's exactly the clarification I was looking for, thanks!

I would assume that your Deep 6 2nd goes for the more noticeable venturi effect and would guess that the SP G250 does as well from what you've written. In your experience are there any other notable 2nds that do/do not fall into that category? I'm trying to compare to rental regulators I've encountered...

I've had the El Dorado 15, and even a glass or two of the 21 :). While I'm more of a bourbon guy overall, if you're spending time in the Caribbean a study of fine rums is just a matter of cultural appreciation ;). Anything north of 130 though I'll leave for you.
most rentals are ..OK. Some places put good regs in rental, not many.

I am from the east coast of Canada, it's cultural there regards rum as well..and I was a sailor once...and lived in the Carib for 5 years..so Rum

UPDATE:

So it's been a while since my last post, with little opportunity to really dive teh Deep 6 reg. This weekend we were out on a multi day trip, so I gave it a good outing.

Firstly I did change the mouth piece which made a huge difference in that it no longer felt strange.

Over the course of the weekend the reg seemed to improve. Perhaps like any new mechanical device it needs a little while to bed in?

Anyway by the end of the weekend it was almost impossible to tell a difference between the D6 and the AL.

I decided to give it a hard current test (for @RainPilot benefit it was round the offshore point of Lima rock) I headed to into a serious current with the Scooter (Which could barely make headway) With my mask leaking from water vibration, and reg juddering in my mouth from the current (bubbles going horizontal) The reg performed flawlessly. I had the venturi wide open and there was no inclination for it to free flow even a little.

Regards the DIN metal hand wheel. I see where it could be more slick and a issue, especially if the user is used to over tightening the DIN fitting onto the tank valve (and many do). If you tighten the DIN wheel to the first stage correctly , two finger tight... you won't need a glove to remove the reg from the first stage. That said, i KNOW that many over tighten the first stage (just like they do LP hoses) and I will look at making it better.

Regarding this, after 20 years in aerospace I understand the difference between finger tight and too effing tight.
However I will concede that the valves on some of my tanks could do with a run through with a tap as the can get fractionally out of round from constantly being in the truck.

I had the reg on a few cylinders this weekend some were okay some needed minor assistance to remove.

Actually its with a little sadness that I'm removing my AI transmitter and SPG to pack up and return the reg. I've grown to like the Orange reg, I'm especially drawn turret first stage, liking the layout a lot.

It's Orange, Quirky and now likeable

But it has to go back, if I were to hang onto it much longer I might be tempted to offer money in return for ownership - that would never do - It being Orange is it's downfall - there's no hiding it from the wife ;)

Ill trade you a black 2nd stage...

No!

No more gear, otherwise people might think I'm a Tec diver, and that would never do :D
You use an EON dive computer, I think you'll be ok for now....

:troll:

I bought the regs and thanks to my work haven't gotten to dive them yet, he borrows one and goes on weekends away diving.

He deserves the burn.

@RainPilot Has just perfected the role of being an Internet diver. He doesn't just dive from behind a keyboard, he actually buys dive gear to hand around his house :rofl3::rofl3::rofl3:

Thanks for your review Manta Ray. I have a new Deep 6 sidemount set that cerich gave me a fantastic deal on at the winter nss-cds cave convention (thank you Chris!). I only have 2 coldwater dives to 90' on them, but so far they are excellent. I am not a connoisseur, rather a user, even an abuser. My idea of excellence is if I never think about it in use, and it doesn't break in spite of me. I can't tell the difference, while using in the same manner, from my Apeks XTX50 sidemounts. The mouthpiece was distinctly different at first, but once in the water I never thought about it again. I think they both breathe as easily as my MK25 doubles set, and those three are noticeably a bit better than my old Oceanic CDX openwater rig, which is a fine breather in it's own right, and indestructible to boot. If longevity/service from Deep 6 is equal to the others, then Deep 6 will be the best bang for the buck.
