The instant he planned a dive deeper than 100' on air he was out of the running for making a "DIR" dive. There's a lot about the dive that doesn't fit in with DIR, so perhaps we should leave that aspect out of it

wedivebc:
Maybe if your talking about suunto RGBM but this is not true for the true imlementations of RGBM such as HS explorer

sorry, i left the word "recreational" out of that sentence. I'm pretty certain he wasn't using any of the computers that have deep stops...

...

edit: i actually threw that qualification in on the previous sentence:

Second, recreational computers are poor for deco. [...etc...]

Spoon,

Don't take this harshly but I think you are still in denial. I think that this hit was more deserved than undeserved. I don't mean to put you down but I would throttle down a bit. And as far as a the profile being DIR I would say no... This should have been on 32%, and just because the computer says your okey doesn't make it so. Listen to your body... how do you feel? Not 100% maybe sit down and pass on the 2nd dive.

Like I said don't take this the wrong way... Next time I'm in town I'll buy you a beer and you can either drink it with me or hit me on the head with it. :bash:

Ben

hi ben i think you got it wrong,

"Of course, the big problem in cases like this is that it's all a matter of statistics/luck or (un)luckiness. We can shift the balance of luck for us or against us, but one could repeat a profile a hundred times without problems, and then get DCS on the next one."

that wasnt from me, charlie posted it, i was merely replying to his post. i do accept the facts that i got bent, i consider myself very lucky to have escaped unscathed and the intention of this post it to gather enough info to determine why i got it and in order to prevent it in the near future.

alibee:
I agree with Ben. Spoon, you keep making these posts that sound like you think you did nothing wrong and that it was merely the fact that you exercised and were "unlucky". Did you read the plethora of replies that said you were out of most limits on any chart? Everyone who has checked your dives against a table has told you that you weren't just close to overdoing it, but that you PLAINLY and CLEARLY were out of non-deco bounds. I'm not trying to be harsh, but your current denial of the facts could very well lead to your death at a later dive.

what posts are you reffering to? ive accepted the fact that i got hit, its a very humbling experience and i appreciate everyone helping me out. i also accept that i was completely at fault and should have paid more attention to the dive at hand and my body's reaction.

jonnythan:
Spoon, unless I missed it, you never let us know how you planned these dives?

our divemaster planned dive one and two i planned the third and i based the third on our surface interval. i know i should have done more planning, i admit i was careless and it got me into trouble. i will make it a point to learn from this mistake and make sure i do thorough dive planning in my next dives.

bro, i mentioned in my past threads that not all of the dive resorts down here have access to enriched air and otherexotic gasses. next time i will get my own fills and bring it with me to these resorts. also i am planning to take the iantd- rec trimix course to get a more indepth understanding of deco procedures and the use of trimix to depth of 130ft.

well i consider these critiques very constructive and essential for my personal growth as an informed and safe diver. if i couldnt hack it beleive me i would go deep into a cave, find the deepest hole and sulk under a stalagtite:)

FWIW, my recreational Mares M1 supposed RGBM does deep stops, and then sends you up to 10', except that the 10' obligation goes away with a decent (read, long time shallow) assent rate.
