I just read Section IV 1-16' the language you quote is not there. You do realize these policies vary from state to state.

DAN dive insurance does require DAN membership, but the actual costs are competitive.

Have you read the Description of coverage closely? Last page Exclusions include "Expenses to the extent that they are paid or payable under other valid and collectible group insurance or medical prepayment plan;" which in effect makes them Secondary! You don't get to avoid claiming on your medical insurance.

And Dr. Lecter pointed out some very interesting requirements and limits above for any coverage as well.

Ah ha, good point - and I did not know which state you live anyway. Yep, yours is different. :thumb:

That's one reason I say look at the options. There are more differences than I care enumerate.

I'm curious on getting some of your toughs in regards of the Dan insurance. This will be my 3rd year of diving, I'm pretty careful and do very conservative dive profile. I'm obviously not concern about the diving back home since our provincial medical covers everything if something would happen but its more about when I go down south.

If you travel with an extra $50K in cash, you don't need it.

Otherwise, you do.

It doesn't matter what you provincial insurance covers since nobody in Mexico or the Caribbean (or anybody else outside Canada) will know or care about it. Without DAN insurance, the only other card they accept says "Visa."

Also, it doesn't really matter if you're careful or not. Things happen that are outside of your normal range of control, like CO poisoning, various stings/bites, medical problems and a bunch of other stuff.

A year costs less than one boat ride. Having seen bills for treatment, I'd never dive without it.

flots.

To the OP, and anybody else in Canada, ignore comments that say not to bother with the lowest DAN plan... I just took a look at their plans (mainly to review what my coverage was) and noticed that they now ask where you live (US or Canada) where they previously didn't... The American Standard plan is pretty crummy, but that's no longer available here. The Master plan doesn't really look as good as I remember it to be, though.

My dive buddy just got some Dan insurance as he's leaving for Caymen island and said you needed to be a member in order to get the dive insurance. I will have that by the time I leave for Playa Del Carmen in early May.

So you don't need to have a membership to get the dive insurance with Dan? humm my dive buddy just got it and said you needed to be a member. I'll have to look into that. But no matter what I am get it.
You misread. I said that it did - just part of the cost, and membership does include the emergency evacuation if over 50 miles from home, diving or not.
