The insurance is always a good idea! I have mine set for auto renewal so I don't forget about it (like I have done in the past)

Going very against the grain, I've never had DAN, though I know it's a great deal. When diving at home there is a chamber close by, as in the places I dive in the U.S. Most of my diving is very shallow solo diving, which would never require a chamber anyway. At home anyway (and most times in the U.S.), I phone my wife at a set post dive time--if I didn't she would alert authorities. While out of Canada our (costly but needed) travel health insurance does cover scuba injuries--I would need an ambulance in the U.S. places as opposed to a helicopter far from populated areas. DAN would be another cost on top of the regular coverage. If finances dictate, I would like to do some diving in far flung places at some point--then I would seriously consider DAN.

Supposedly, some insurance companies in the US won't cover "dangerous activities" like scuba diving. I don't have an experience with this. Could be urban legend, but it wouldn't surprise me either.

Likewise for here, our healthcare system would cover the requirement for chamber etc so haven't taken any out. As and when I go abroad, DAN will be top of the list.
