H2Andy:
i'm sorry you felt bait and switched. this was probably my fault, as i thought
the $99 only covered the basic membership.

No harm no foul, dude. What I originally thought was covered by DAN - and what you originally thought was covered - is how they explained it to me on the phone as well.

H2Andy:
I don't think you should characterize it as a "bait and switch." sounds like
you were not clear what you were buying in the first place. that's not really
DAN's fault.

Mmm...you are right on this one, Andy. That was a knee-jerk reaction which I now retract. You're also right that I still don't fully understand what I'm getting - or what I would have gotten - from that $99. Sorry about the tone last post.

I still feel that the DiveAssure plan is a great one, and I'm all for any agency that gives sizable discounts to us hard-workin' instructors. Check out their Diamond Plan - I'm not sure how it stacks up to DAN's coverage for the same amount of money, but it should be noted that as an instructor I got it for $112. Tough to beat.

Regardless, I am a firm believer that every diver should get covered by someone. Weighed against the expense an accident could incur, it's a no-brainer.

These are my words of wisdom to celebrate my 300th post...

I just renewed my DAN last night (I've been a member since 2002). In the process, I reviewed the coverage and benefits. The corrections above are on...$29 for membership and $70 for the top plan, and that's a LOT of coverage including evac, treatment, gear insurance, trip cancellation costs, in short, the whole enchilada (with a few limits on amounts of course, particularly in the lost equipment, cancelled trip and such...). Sorry you canceled before you got the right information. It could have saved you a headache if nothing else. Still, it's good you did wind up with insurance you should be happy with.

Boris:
I thought memberships are 29$ (individual) or 44$ (family)?

If it is an individual membership then 99$ = 29$ membership + 70$ preferred plan?
This is what I paid and the customer rep told me that this included all treatment to boot. Has there been a change?

At least I got coverage that I like, yes. That's the good news. I seem to have taken the long way, but I'm all set.
