To all BP/Wing users in this forum,

Has anyone of you experienced the D-rings on your harness rusting after the dive? I just want to ensure this is a genuine material quality issue before I feedback to reseller and manufacturer.

I purchased an OxyCheq deluxe harness, travel backplate and Mach V 30# wing a couple of weeks ago from ScubaToys and dove with it during my trip to Lembeh Straits. The rig work great. The only complain that I have is the d-rings on the harness start to rust after I surfaced from my 1st dive with the rig. I did not have d-rings rusting issue on last my BCD(DR Transpac II) which I dove for more than 2 years on the weekly basis.

Definately an issue
Sounds like it isn't marine grade stainless... definately let them know as it might be a manufacturing mix up
Good luck

Probably a bad part from the supplier. If a non-SS D-ring (or batch) gets mixed in with the order they will probably get used. I'm sure St will take care of it.

See if a magnet will attract it. If strong attraction, not stainless (obvious from the rust anyway). Probably nickel plated.

One of my rigs is an Oxycheq plate and harness, and I'm assuming the hardware came from Oxycheq, although I don't know for sure because it was purchased used. I've had no rusting problems in a couple hundred dives. (And I've had no rusting problems with either of my other rigs, nor has my husband with his).

Stainless steel isn't always what a reputable manufacturer thinks it is -- Salvo's had some problems with rusting latches on their canisters. If Oxycheq has gotten a bad shipment of D rings, I would suspect they'd really like to know about it.

Hi digital_steve, awap, mempilot, and TSandM

Thank you for all your input. The two main D-ring that is rusting are the one on the waist and one of the d-ring on the shoulder strap is shpwing sign of rust too. I just wrote to Joe at ScubaToys on this matter and hope he is able to help me out.

This is my first online purchase of dive gear from the other side of the globe and I just hope that it will have a happy ending.

be sure to post your outcome. I am curious to know what happens.

we just starting carrying Oxycheq in the shop...
