Finer points of the hogarthian rig:
The bungee needs to be shorter than you think. Just long enough so the reg can be put in your mouth and the bungee isn't uncomfortably tight. The hose also needs to be the correct length. ~24inches is good for most folks w/ doubles. Probably shorter with a single tank.
The long hose really needs to be routed under a canister or tucked into the waistband. Routing it under the knife can place the hose too far to the left, interfering with the left dring and the inflator, and could be trapped by a stage/deco bottle. Any slack in the hose (if you're short, like me) needs to be behind the canister. Otherwise, it bows out and is sloppy, and can interfere with the left dring and inflator.
The chest drings need to be placed properly. This is roughly collarbone level. Too low and you can't get at them easily with the same side hand. Too high and the inflator tends to dangle and flop around.
If your kit is set up right, the backup and inflator are pretty far apart.
