YEARS ago, I was a member of D.A.N.

I was thinking about re-newing my membership, but I was curious if anyone here is active with this organization.

What are your thoughts? Is this worthwhile to you as a diver?

Just looking for some feedback, thanks folks!

I think the fairly small yearly fee is well worth the insurance that DAN affords. As I understand it, most health insurance companies won't cover recompression therapy, the cost of which can easily get into the many thousands of dollars. Additionally, DAN assists with evacuation - a big help especially in some of your more remote locations. Plus, they do a lot of great research and education about diving safety that could help us all in the long run.

IMHO, you should get it.

Cheers,
Lilla

I wouldn't dive without it. Think about the potential cost of one trip to the Chamber and I think all of your doubts will be erased, and that is only one of the DAN benefits.

I wouldn't dive without DAN. I have only had to use it once since I have had it and that was in 1999 when I had an encounter with a sea urchin in Hawaii.

It is considered a secondary insurance in most cases, but when your primary insuance doesn't cover a trip to the chamber, DAN will.

As everyone else said DAN membership is well worth it.

The individual membership fee is $29/year and the family membership is $44/year.

The high end preferred insurance plan costs $70 per year. In other words, a DAN membership and the preferred insurance plan will run you $99/year.

My wife and daughter only dive on vacations. I dive locally and on vacations. I have a DAN family membership and each one of us has the DAN preferred insurance plan.

The DAN plan also covers you if you need to be evacuated for a non-diving related medical issue.

I would no be without the DAN membership and insurance.

They're also the premier organization in the world doing research in hyperbaric medicine. This is just one more reason in addition the those mentioned above. I have talked all my dive budies into joining. While you're at it, get a DAN tag and attach it to your BC. That way much of your medical information will be right there when you can't speak for your self.

I am a DAN member and support them fully. I do have other dive insurance which is a primary policy.
