cutting spring straps

i currently have a set of xl-spring straps (xs scuba) and find them too big has anyone attempted to cut thier springs and re-fit them into the black housing that comes with it?

if so any comments or suggestions??

Use a heavy pair of cutters to snip them off, then a dremel tool to buff the end so it isn't sharp.

If you can't fit it back in the black piece you should also be able to bend the spring and put the bolt through. Doing it won't be really easy but it can be done.
