We will be on Curacao during Father's Day :clapping:. So I think the family will take me out for a "special" dinner (meaning I get to choose). I am thinking of either the rijsttafel restaurant or the Indian restaurant at the Kura Hulanda.

I have never been to either place. One factor is that I can easily get Indian food at home but there are no Indonesian restaurants places here. I have had Indonesian food before in Amsterdam.

Any thoughts about which place is "better" or any other suggestions I should consider? We might be able to get to both, but staying in the West end and watching costs we might not.

Thanks...

The rijsttafel place was great when we were there though it's been quite awhile. (Assuming you mean Rijsttafel Indonesia. There was another rijsttafel place in Waterfort arches that was ok but not as good, not sure if it's still there.) Haven't been to the Indian place to compare, but being in the Kura Hulanda it's probably pricier than your average Indian restaurant. All things considered, I'd go for the rijsttafel.

I tend to suggest Bistro Le Clochard for special occasions but probably not as good a choice for a family dinner, or if you're watching costs.

The African restaurant at the ostrich farm was surprisingly good, but that's the western end of the island and a long haul from the eastern end. The farm tour was unique and they even have one of the more interesting gift shops on Curacao. Tour and dinner there would be a good outing, but could cut short a dive afternoon unless you save it for your last day which is what we did.

IF you like the rijsttafel, you need to go to Landhuis brievengat on wednesday night.
They are the best.:D

The option from Damselfish, for the Ostrich Farm is VERY GOOD aswell.
The farmtour is fun(kind of) but the food and ambiance are exelent.

We did the ostrich farm tour last time on our no-dive day, and had lunch there. The ostrich burgers were great and if I can fit in another stop for food there, we will. Anyone know if the dinner is much different from lunch?

Keep the suggestions coming...I am going to look into the Landhuis Brievengat.

I am so anxious to get back to Curacao!!

John, will a curried pizza suffice?

I asked a friend her suggestions:
Bali Rijsttafel at Mercuriusstraat 13 (Phone: 461-2606) serves decent Indonesia and Thai dishes. Sambal at Zuikertuinje Mall has decent prices, though not as many items on their menu compared to Rijsttafel. Cinco (461-4545) offers Indonesian Buffet on Saturdays for dinner and the Boat House at Brakkeput Ariba (Phone:767-2242), Indonesian Buffet is on Wednesdays

We have been to Peppers on Cas Cora Weg on Thursday night and they had an Indonesian Buffet as well.

I've been meaning to go to Landhuis Brievengat for lunch. I'll make a point before June. This Thursday (shopping day) the girls and I are going to see Stan's (SMBCuracao) underwater photo exhibit at D'Art and lunch at Bodega 58 behind the movie theater. Stan and his wife have an exhibit that runs through May if anyone else is interested. D'Art is near the Maritime museum.

Even with the mixed reviews, Daniels has very good food. If anyone goes for lunch, try the pancakes. They are thicker than a crepe yet thinner than NE style. You get one that covers the whole plate. Dinner prices are comparable to the Lodge; more on the high side. Daniels is approx. 20 minutes from Westpunt.

If you and your wife want to go alone, (awwwhhh) the boys can stay with us.

My vote is Rijstafel Indonesia on Mercurienstraat - we have been there2 years in a row and it is hands down my favorite restaurant in Curacao!

Rijsttafel Indonesia looks fantastic! I will be in Curacao with my husband and two boys on Father's Day too... Do you need reservations?..
