Stopped in Cozumel on Disney Fantasy and had arranged shore dive at 2 pm with ScubaJuan off of Hotel Barracuda because I had food tour with Cozumel Chef from 11-1. I walked off the boat at 9 am to check the place out and they were able to push the dive up to 9:30 am.

Monstro was my guide, we started with Al80 at 3200 psi, gear was aqualung BC with separate weight belt, Scubapro regulators. I had my own mask and fins.

After a giant stride off the Hotel Bartacuda pier, we went south against a mild current, through the Sea Trek area where we waved at the helmets, through a collapsed dolphinarium, past the plane cockpit, west out into grassy flats,, back north to plane wings, old car, dolphinarium ruins, sea trek, old collapsed pier towers, and then back to Hotel Barracuda steps. 50 minutes with 1200 psi left, water temp 81 degrees, visibility 80-100 feet, max depth 25 feet.

Lots of juvenile life, tiny moray, small sponges and corals, some giant conch, Sargent majors defending their eggs, and a large green flying Gunard in the middle of the grass.

Monstro was an excellent guide, pointing out sealife and using slate to name them for me. He offered to take me out after my food tour at 2 pm to have the pm boat drop us off at the wall to swim back to the pier, but the tour was excellent and too filling for me to go again with him.

First time diving in Cozumel, I know it’s nothing compared to other divers, but I can recommend ScubaJuan for cruisers on a tight timeframe. The shop communicated well through WhatsApp and the staff were very friendly and laid back. The shore dive was very interesting and relaxed. Good checkout dive for weighting and trim. I was told that I just missed the season for larger life in the shallows, but seeing that my local choice is drysuit in quarry at low forties degrees temperatures, this was great!

Nice report! Do you mind sharing how much the dive was (cost of dive, cost of rental gear, etc.)?

Also, I added a cross-reference link from my thread asking about shore diving from Hotel Barracuda:

Diving, sure, but how was the food tour? (Invoking meme that every Cozumel thread devolves into food.)

Food tour was excellent and more filling than expected. We met at the Mega, took a taxi van to several locations. Taco Cochinita pibil, a quesadilla shop with cactus filling, taco camarones, tour of the central market, a local chicken soup with lime in a cocina economica, finished with a visit to cozumeleña bakery, all local spots, agua frescas of all different flavors, with a local guide that was very knowledgeable.

I think it was around 80 US dollars plus a twenty for tip.

OP - Did you book either the diving of the food tour through the shop or on your own?

I think the $80 referred to the cost of the diving.

$80 was food tour through Cozumel chef website. They can also arrange a private chef for meal prep for people staying with kitchens.
