I am eager to find out what Andy might have found regarding the answer, but I will hold my breath, hoping not to be too embarased when he posts the verses.
I think this discussion of the spherical earth is quite relevant. If I were God, and I told of Heaven and Hell, I would have at least communicated the geometry of earth, this magnificant creation of mine.
And if God wants us to know and love him, why did he not induce prophets on the other side of the world? Why did he not make his ten commandments known to them? You know, all that important stuff like no other God's before me.
Something don't jive.
I just thought of something interesting, I would have loved to be a current day meteorologist in the day of Noah. Can yo imagine doing a weather report for a storm covering the whole planet? WOWZA!
aquanuts:I still don’t see how the shape of the earth has anything to do with mans’ origin.
H2Andy:dude, the argument you insterted yourself into is whether the verse in question says that the Earth is round
(this is the second time i explain that to you)
despite what modern Christians want to assert, the Bible writers thought the Earth was flat and round, like everybody around them did.
there's no verse in the Bible that states the Earth is not flat. in fact, there are many that imply it was flat. no verse actually comes out and says it was flat. it is also called "round," and there are several verses that state that.
but round is not the same as spherical
while the idea that the Earth is a sphere has been around since about 370 BC, most (if not all) of the books of the Old Testament had already been written by then.
I agree with you, but more importantly, I don't really think they cared; whether it was or wasn't didn't matter to them....despite what modern Christians want to assert the Bible writers thought the Earth was flat and round, like everybody around them did.
