I agree with Rick they are so delicious. When I see them together with the lobster I always get ungry...

whats the best way to catch crab?

1) with a net (seriously)

2) push down on their shells from behind, and hold them down whilst you work your thumb underneath to hold them in a pincer-grip. Then quickly escort them into your non-mesh catch bag. Gloves are necessary, heavy gloves are better. They can reach under their shells way better than above their shells.

Check for eggs under females. Leave them be.

3) the most fun way is to grab them by the claws and then figure out how to get them into the bag, or hand them to your buddy (ask mike_s)!

Yeah... he'd hand them towards me then let go, then they'd attack me Kamikazee style!

The blue crabs in NJ are extra cranky, and I suspect that if you make them mad enough, they will point a gun at you. :maniac:
I have been terrified of them ever since one sliced upen my foot when I was a little kid. Walking around in the bay without shoes here is what I would consider an extreme sport.
They are a nummy treat though.

SeaYoda:
It must be mating season or something because the blue crabs around here are aggressive and fearless.

This guy was standing out all puffed up and flapping his paddles at me:

I had a similar run in with a Sheep Crab this past weekend in Laguna Beach. He must have been 30" from claw to claw, and he obviously thought he could take me. Scared the cr*p out out of me at first.

And I had my camera in the car, but decided against bringing it at the last minute. That will teach me....
