I noticed the decline in posting when the moderator who owns a house there started policing the site and removing posts that said anything negative about Cozumel.
How do you know that that is happening? I have occasionally seen posts over the years that have been accusatory of this sort of thing, but I don't know that there was ever any truth to them.

But be that as it may, it wouldn't account for the drop in neutral and positive posts; that just seems like a decline in interest to me. I will, however, keep an eye on yours from today to see if it and my reply disappear. :D

EDIT: What I have seen is spats between negative posters and some of the rest of us that got so acrimonious that whole threads or sections of them were removed; I don't have a problem with that.

I don't think it's happening much anymore, but when the mod first started, it happened a lot.
Before the local news thread, I posted many articles that were removed.
I was told by the mod that crime or political issues had nothing to do with scuba diving.
When cvchief posted about drinking his posts were often removed.
People were constantly being told to take their conversation to the Pub section.
Maybe it wasn't as deliberate as I think, but the tone changed when the moderator started .

Well, of course you know that as a private entity they have complete authority over what can stay up and what cannot, and they don't have to justify it to anyone. I have had a few of mine deleted over the years but they were in most cases my participation in some stoopid pointless argument that I let myself get sucked into, so it was just as well.

A couple of times I dipped my toes in the Pub. I knew it would be a coarse and more acidic forum than the regular scuba forums, but OMG, it really is a cesspool(sorry, if that triggers or offends anyone)of humanity. The debates are no longer thought provoking, but now is a place ugly name calling with new lows in online bickering. I cannot speak for anybody else's experience, but I think it makes people more reluctant to post on any of the forums, knowing who is reading and what type of harsh responses may be rendered, especially if you do not share their same views. The Facebook Cozumel forums seem to be more positive and more supportive. I will still check in on Scubaboard as it has provided so many valuable resources and talented writers, but am also more cautious. I may be wrong; holding out hope for more trip reports and activity. I always look forward to traveling vicariously through thee SB clan.

Kinda like alt.scuba on Usenet was, what, 25 years ago? No, thanks.

Man o man, are you right on the money! There’s only one ‘side’ you can be on in the Pub - or you risk getting banned - and the language and name-calling is abhorrent (completely breaking the TOS for even the Pub). Here, ‘upstairs’ it is better, but it’s frustrating when I see someone post a neutral or beginner question and get hammered for it. It’s like the ‘split fin or paddle’ or ‘backplate and wing’ stuff. People are looking for a place to vent their spleen and they come here to do it. The facebook groups I’m on are quicker to discourage that sort of nastiness, but it still happens.

Thankfully, I haven’t seen a lot of that in this thread (but maybe I just wasn’t here when it happened or have forgotten?).

Welcome to the internet and "social" media.

It’s the wild wild west up here. Down there, it’s a whole different beast. I can only visit a couple of threads regularly and others for seconds at a time. Heck, I limit my time on FB and twitter too. It’s ugly everywhere these days. It’s best to spend time with people ‘with skin on’, otherwise known as ‘IRL’. :)

If you do not share the same beliefs as the big dawgs in the Pub, you are hurled ruthless insults. I know members of this forum are probably wondering why The Pub has been addressed in the Cozumel forum, which I apologize for the side track, however, I am leery about posting any personal information, or experiences knowing the power players of The Pub also participate in the forums and will censor any speech which does not align with their beliefs.

So I came here looking for restaurant advice, and I find a discussion on the Pub. The noted drop in interest in this forum is by no means unique--it is happening in forums all over ScubaBoard. I created the Rocky Mountain forum a couple decades ago, and for a while it was hopping. It is now almost completely dead. The Instructor to instructor forum hasn't had a decent discussion in years.

Unhappy with ScubaBoard, I sought out an alternative. All the diving forums like this are pretty much dead. As lifeless as this may seem, it is almost the only game in town for scuba discussions.

The same seems to be true for Cozumel restaurants. I have not been to the scene in a long time, and I'm stunned. We ate at La Mission tonight. We were the only ones in there the entire time we were there.

Back when we came more frequently, one of our favorites was El Moro. How is that these days?
