Last few times I ate at La Mission, we've been eaten alive by mosquitos. Love the place but if I cant enjoy my meal while being a meal myself, I just go to Casa Mission. Never an issue there.
They gave us a can of repellent, or else we would have had to leave. We are planning to go to Casa Mission at some point.

The last couple of months have been dead in Cozumel - that’s what I’ve been told by people who live there. I’m hoping it picks up in October/November. Not sure why it’s so bad - economy?

And yes, it seems that most of the forums here are gasping for air. There was a time when the women’s perspectives forum was hopping and so much fun. Not so much now. But I’m on several scuba facebook pages that are very active - for women, for divers over 50, etc. Lots of activity. Can’t say if it’s the poor attitude here or it’s just run its course. I miss the ‘old’ days - and it wasn’t that long ago really.

Last couple of times we were in Cozumel we stayed at Dreams (terrible - I can’t say enough terrible things about it) and Explorean (can’t say enough good things about it). But that means we didn’t go to Centro, so I can’t say much about that either. Next time we’ll be staying at Suites Colonial and will be at all the local haunts. I’ll report back. :)

Btw, even the roll calls are bleak. :(
I'm looking for a rental for our trip in Jan/Feb. The people renting seem to think that the island will be full. I suspect they will get an attitude adjustment, we will see.

Late December plane fares to Cozumel from here are simply insane.

We always fly into Cancun as we spend more time in Puerto Morelos. Plane tickets seem normal for early January. Most rental rates are up in Puerto Morelos too, but we rented an AirBnB there for the 5 weeks we will be in Mexico for a good price. Out of the tourist areas in PM it is as cheap to rent for the 5 weeks as to rent 2 weeks and then 1 week later. A place we stayed at in Coz last year and 3 years ago is about $30 a night higher right now. Nice place. Probably worth the money but doesn't look like much on the outside and is out of the way. We will see if they get it rented

We used to go there back when it was the Acuario restaurant; the food was OK but we really liked the ambiance and their Spanish/Mayan/Mexican coffee performances. I have not been into the building since then, but it is a great location for a restaurant.

Google does not return a result for "Almar Cozumel"; are you sure that is what it is called?

Aside: What Google does return is a bunch of hits for Ventanas al Mar, the east side hotel (the only hotel over there) that is right next to Coconuts. Apparently it is open again.
Gordon,
I am not at all sure, but I saw this post on the Cozumel 4 You Facebook page.

I checked in with our local source today and she says things are still very slow and some businesses are closing (didn’t ask which kinds of businesses). Honestly, I’m curious about the cause. Meanwhile, they’re still building more condos on the island.

Cozumel diving was always cheaper than Puerto Morelos diving until last year. Housing has always been competitive with PM, but not now. I suspect Cozumel got a little bit overimpressed with itself. It used to have a nice vibe. Not so much now, although the people way up in the city are still nice. Some of the businesses up there are not all that happy to see tourists shopping in their stores.

Wasn’t Margaritaville down at the southern pier? That will be a cruiser bar/restaurant I’d guess.
I'm pretty sure the location being discussed is the original Cozumel one in town not far from Chedraui

Many years ago the Acuario restaurant was at that location, right across the street from the Neptuno disco. Just up the street was the other disco, the Scaramouche. Those were the days, my friends.
