One almost has to wonder how many of these shots, taken by different divers, are of the same eel?
I could swear I've seen kmurray719's spotted eel diving from shore at Hotel Coz.:dontknow:

Wow, I had no idea there were so many different kinds of eels there . . . these photo threads are making me think that, one of these days, I'll have to give Cozumel another chance. (But when I get anywhere near that part of the world, the cavetropism is pretty inescapable . . .)

Oh thank you for this thread and all the wonderful pix ! I love love LOVE the eels. Seeing one (or more) makes the dive for me.

yeah, our first 4-5 trips to Cozumel we only saw spotted morays and green morays. Then someone pointed out a goldentail to us - I had no idea they were so small! After that I started seeing them everywhere on every dive, shore and deep dives.
Then at ScubaClub shore dive we found chain morays, sharptail morays and the viper moray. We had seen those types of eels at other destinations but not Cozumel. So the SCC shore dive we found 6 different types of eels! You can't beat that.

Thanks for the information Robin, I have never found a Chain or Viper in Cozumel.
However during this years Cozumel invasion we have free shore diving included, so you can bet I'll be looking very hard.

Here's a chain from Bonaire, they are one of the most beautiful of all Morays IMO

Awesome pictures, everyone. Can anybody tell me what the little "horns" sticking out where you'd expect nostrils to be and what their purpose is? I've seen bunches of all kinds of eels, but I never noticed them before I saw all of these pictures. Maybe I focus more on their mouth & teeth when they are live in front of me:scared:
