My HB and I are planning a trip back to Cozumel this coming March (3-10). This year we are going to be diving with Blue XT Sea. OK, he's more advanced and much more relaxed about everything that has to do with SCUBA...I've definitely come a long way and am SO looking forward to this trip.

It is my understanding that with BXT Sea, we have to do a back roll from the boat...ok, I guess I just need some reassurance that this isn't going to be a stresser for me. :11:

As a side note, last year when in the Coz, we ended our trip with a couple of awesome 45 minute dives in Dos Ojos Cenotes...OMG, I had to remind myself very frequently that I was in water, and fresh water at that. I kept feeling like I was simply flying/gliding through those incredible caverns...the water was that clear.

Some reassurance about the back rolls would be greatly appreciated. I think we're going to practice doing it in the pool that we have access to, but will it be the same?

Thanks for listening.

Back rolls are as easy as, well, falling off a boat. The DMs will talk you through it on-site, too, so I wouldn't worry too much about it before you get there.

It will be essentially the same but make sure you don't whomp the pool side ;)

Hold your mask and danglies, don't kick as you go over or immediately upon hitting the water. Relax and enjoy feeling like a three old in tumbling class again!

Hmmm, I may have to use that...sounds like fun. Thank you.

You'll probably find the most challenging part of doing a back roll is getting into position on the side of the boat with all your gear on. Take your time, and don't be afraid to ask your buddy or the boat crew to help. Once you're on the perch, put a couple of puffs in your BC and hold you mask and regulator against you face. When you hear the three count, just lean back and gravity will take care of the rest!

You do need to be aware of where the boat is, as it might drift over you. After I hit the water, I usually put my hands out in front of me as I come back up so I can push away from the boat if I need to.

Don't stress it is very easy and Christi crew will take good care of you. Are you going with a group? I know another diver from Wisconsin that is going to be there the same time as you.

Back rolls off of the boat are great. Very simple, and definitely not worth stressing about. All you do is get perched up there, hold your mask, reg and danglies... and then just lean back and let gravity do it's thing.

Nope, we're going by ourselves, but as always, we'll meet up with other peeps during the week we'll be there. SCUBA peeps are the best...

As I said before...I can't wait!! Thanks for all the reassurance. I'm thinking it'll be fine. I didn't care to do the giant stride at first either, but that's been great...practice, practice, practice...

Nothing to stress over... in fact i think it's definitely easier than doing a giant stride. No having to walk across a pitching deck, trying to not trip on someone elses fins. After you do the first one you'll be wondering what the fuss is about. :D

As is repeated on the board over and over (and with good reason), Christi has a fabulous crew who will take care of all your needs.

We'll be in Coz March 7th, and we can't wait either!!!! Have never managed to dive with Christi, but have never heard a bad thing .... everyone LOVES her!!! We'll be with Blue Angel this trip.....

As for backrolls - at first the very thought freaked me out, but when I realized how easy they were, it became my favorite!!! Like everyone said, take your time, ask for help if needed, and make sure your fins have flipping room before you go!!!
