Of course not. I merely suggest that we cut the people who live on the island some slack on Christmas.

You know I was just kidding, right? I knew what you meant, hence I have suggested preparing by bringing cup-a-noodles just in case

I certainly wasn't suggesting that the entire island and its local inhabitants revolve around me and my needs/desires. Simply wanted to know what to expect so I can plan accordingly. I have lived nearly a decade in Latin America and my wife is Mexican- I have a pretty good idea what Xmas Eve and Christmas day looks like in most places from Mexico to Argentina. However, Cozumel is a tourist location with millions of annual foreign visitors and having never been there at this time period, I was curious if things were any different.
No offense taken, I get the spirit of where you are coming from.

Cozumel's locals enjoy a 24-hour X-mas day.. It just runs from about 3PM on X-mas Eve to 3PM on X-mas day so most do get a full "day" for X-mas if they chose. The bottom line is Cozumel is a tourist destination, it's peak season, and there's money to be made that can't be made in the off season. Think of Cozumel locals who serve the tourist side of the local economy as restaurant workers in the US... When everyone else is having fun and enjoying themselves on Friday and Saturday nights they're working and are happy to do so as that's when the place is jammed, the house is full, money is flowing and there's big $ to be made.

There's plenty of time to sleep during the long off season.

From my perspective of 25 years, no tourist is going to go hungry. IN addition, we maintain a near normal dive schedule except no night dives Christmas or New Years.

PS we pay double on those days and we have no shortage of volunteers.

That's very comforting to hear. My husband is very happy with the news. Food is very important to him.:yeahbaby:

With Christmas Eve being on a Sunday this year, those restaurants that are typically closed on Sundays will most likely be closed all day - but those that are normally open on Sundays will most likely close sometime between 7 and 9pm. I usually post a list of restaurants that are open and their holiday hours the week of Christmas.

Chedraui and Mega will be open until 8 or 9pm

Christmas Day is pretty normal beginning around noon as far as restaurants and grocery stores go. As you know, we don't dive on Christmas Day and don't plan to break that tradition after 15 years - I would not even consider asking my guys to be away from their families that day. We also only run two-tank morning dives on Christmas Eve - no afternoon or night dives that day. We ALL deserve a full 24 hours off regardless of who you are or what industry you're in.

I can't believe we are already less than 3 months away from Christmas again - time flies!!!

Thanks Christi- I appreciate all of the detail and looking forward to seeing you on the 22nd through the 30th. All the best! -- Greg

Rock'n Java, Buccanos and several others do a Christmas dinner special. Your hotel may possibly be doing a Christmas dinner as well. I would imagine Christmas Eve shouldn't be a problem.

If you are on Facebook, go to some of the Coz pages; Cozumel Review, Cozumel4YOU, Cozumel4US ... a lot of places post ads on their holiday specials. We also try to keep up with them and repost them on the radio station facebook page (Beach Bar Radio-KCZM).

Umm I don't think Bucannos will be open on Christmas. I know for a fact they are closed Christmas Eve - they have a private family thing on Christmas Eve :)
