I got certified in April of ‘77. We moved from Florida back to my home town in Virginia. A friend who was also recently certified told me they were looking for volunteers for diving as well as other positions. I jumped on it. I learned to use the digging equipment while diving, how to survey the wreck sites then eventually, ‘dig stuff up’….not as easy as it sounds but fun nonetheless. Lots more to the story. A ‘prime’ time in my life and lots of great memories including meeting a famous author at a co volunteers birthday party… a once in a lifetime experience…

I found a 3/4 full bottle with a wooden stopper in a few metres deep of water, at an old sea baths in Port Phillip Bay. Found it in 2017, and it's still 3/4 full in 2025. It's probably cordial, not alcohol.
