I only wear contacts when I dive. Soft daily disposable. No worries about cleaning and disenfecting. Cost is about $0.50. If they get flushed out, no big loss. I originally got a "trial" pair to see wearing "glasses" while diving was worth the expense of buying a prescription for my mask. Optometrist, a fellow diver said "if some troglodyte steps on your mask your out $180 plus the cost of the mask." Then there is the issue of topside and not being able to see clearly. Contacts, cheap enough and I dive often enough to run through a box of 90 about once a year, just in time for a new prescription. Dive mask are expensive and then if your prescription changes.....

I think it's a little dramatic to be worried about blindness(!) every time salt or fresh water gets into your eyes (which would be at least at little bit every time you dive) while wearing contacts.
Certainly close attention to contact lens hygiene is very important and it doesn't hurt to be somewhat more vigilant about this when you've exposed your contacts to dive water. But I don't think I would be thowing away an otherwise perfectly good pair of contact lenses just because some water got into my eyes.
