That's a bummer. I didn't realize it was that bad. What do the biologists say about it?

Believe it or not, a big part of the problem is still the effects from the oil spill in 1996. It really decimated the lobster population here. One of my dive buddies works for the North Cape Oil Spill lobster restoration project with the National Marine Fisheries Service doing the lobster v-notching. But the population still hasn't recovered yet.

On the positive side you do see a lot of the little guys out there so maybe that bodes well for the future.
 
I have seen only a couple of lobster with ULD on the SS. I spoke to a Hull lobsterman yesterday and asked him if he was seeing any. He said that the lobstermen in the area didn't see any in the beginning of this season, but they're catching them at at an ever increasing rate as the summer goes along.
