I was thinking about this in another thread: if the light is in the left and the compass is in the left, how do you read the compass? Do you just switch hands on the light to charge the compass's luminescence every so often then switch back?

Put the light in a temp hold with the right hand (gripping the light with the palm down). Then use the compass as needed. The luminenscence lasts plenty long enough, you just can't align your left arm perendicular to the direction of travel.

Yup, switch the light to the right hand (temporary hold) and light it up. It'll stay lit for quite some time.

And why not putting the compass on the right side ?
I would have trouble to switch hands. I have a home made handle with bungees (similar to goodman) but taking it off all the time is not fun, feasible of course, but I would prefer to put the compass on the other side.. The only issue is I have my computer on the right side :p The slate on the left... not enough place

It's much easier to donate gas if the light is in the left hand.

Oh icic, good point. then I have quesiton followed:

Left hand also needs to operate inflator hose, would this cause inconvinient? there will be no light shining at intended direction during this time.

You can always temporarily place the light in the right hand if you don't want to send erratic light signals.

Also, we drive scooters with the right hand, which is another reason the DIR system has the light (usually) in the left hand.

Doesn't DIR require compass on the left?

Yes, and with the depth gauge on the right we create a dashboard that is easily seen as we are swimming or holding stops. The reason we place the compass on the left arm is for keeping track of direction while scootering.

Peace,
Greg
