I was trying to repair some comms on one the umbilicals at my shop and have been having issues . I can both talk and hear topside but it is all out of the mic and I’m getting nothing out of the earphones. I tried swapping wires around on the banana clips but still no dice. Any tips or tricks would be appreciated !

The most common two-wire "push to talk" (on the comms box) is referred to as "simplex" so the mic and earphone speakers get the same signal. Something is wrong with your earphones and/or the wiring feeding them. Your umbilical is OK unless you are running 4-wire duplex comms like a telephone system. Duplex is pretty rare on surface-supplied systems due to cross-talk and reliability issues.

It is a 4 wire comm system . I’m doing some more digging tonight and think it’s an issue with the earphone banana plug .
