Thinking about Belize in May with a group already booked at Ramon's. Would appreciate comments about the resort and also about the dive op. Do you know if Nitrox is available? Didn't see it on website. Comments seem mixed about the dive op...negative about owner, mixed about dms. Is this your experience? Are there other reasonable options if we stay there but dive with someone else? Also, how long does it take to get out to Blue Hole from there? How is food at resort?

Thanks

Too bad you've already booked at Ramon's. The Palms Condos (The Palms Oceanfront Suites - Come stay with us...) are right next door and for similar prices you get a full condo, kitchen, balcony overlooking the beach, etc. We have stayed at Ramon's once, small expensive rooms, overpriced food. The food is OK, but better food and better prices down the beach. The dive shop manager never seemed to give a damn about anything, but a few of the DM's are actually friendly and helpful. Again, check the shops down the beach, very short walk.

Thank you for the input. What other dive ops near Ramon's might be a good option for us? What are your favorite spots for quick lunch and great dinner?

We took a Blue Hole trip with Aqua Scuba last Wednesday. It took about 3 hours to get there but they picked up a group from Caye Caulker en route. The ocean was rough on the way out but they have a big dive boat that rides the waves well. We were tipped off that the water was colder than usual so we got to the shop early in the morning and grabbed the thickest full length suits and took a fleece and rain jacket for the ride. All dives were great and we were well looked after by the DM's and crew. The trip back was smoother and less chilly which may have been a change in the weather or several cups of a rather excellent rum punch.

The Aquarium dive was our favorite.

If I had one complaint it would be the lunch chicken portions - about enough to satisfy someone doing the Tracy Anderson Method. I'm sure others like me were imagining the taste of a spit roasted Booby Bird! :)
