Well.... it was the roughest of the last 3 days today. We took one wave over the bow on the way past the cruise ship pier. To be fair, though, the sea state in that area always seems a bit more confused and rougher than the rest of the coast. Parkas all day. Boat ride was WET going out and coming back. Comfy underwater, but a stiff (and cool - 70 degree?) wind when we surfaced. Not bad at the beach for our surface interval, but I'm sitting on the porch at Aldora and it's quite windy and borderline cool.

I heard two boats sank yesterday. One was a dive boat. I can't confirm that, but our divemaster said it had a few passengers (all OK), but a big enough boat for about 18 divers.

On our way out, our DM said "put air in your BCD now, and have your fins ready". I asked "is the boat going down". He said "I hope not".

I'll post up a video if I can.

Wow! And that is why they close the ports! So different from the week we were there (Dec 19-26).

Today was c-o-l-d! Brrrr and thank god for parkas. Pretty sure Aldora divers got some jealous looks today from cold wet divers with other ops. One guy on our boat quit after the 1st dive and I assume he got a taxi back. We sat in the sun for the full hour and a bit during the SI. Nice dive to end our trip, the highlight was lying 8’ away from an Eagle Ray while he dug for lunch.

When you scrape off the galvanization of HP steel tanks they rust immediately. Aluminum tanks, so what. We've been here 25 years and I still remember a lot of things, like never loan out our tanks no matter how friendly we want to be. And I also remember you guys were not very grateful. That is all

dave

OK, fair point about the steel tanks, but again, we weren't out to thrash anyone's gear, and I'm sure we didn't conceal what we were doing with them (hell, we blabbed about our cave diving exploits to anyone that would listen, LOL! :D )
And I'm honestly not following how we could've been "ungrateful". As I recall, we were always highly appreciative of you guys renting us high-volume tanks, for a reasonable $2 each (and I've carried that sentiment over the past many years, so this is all news to me).
And again, it was Brad that knew you guys, and always went inside and did the rentals, I walked out onto 30th and flagged us a big taxi and brought him back to the loading dock (IIRC).
But seriously, you actually remember us? I imagine we'd crossed paths, but I don't recall that I knew you ( at this time, Brad was staffing the hyperbaric chamber, and I worked at Pro-Dive, across the street from Micheles, where I later worked (for Bob McPhereson), and later worked 1/2 a block down Salas for Rolando (el Cubano, among other nicknames) at Dive Cozumel/Yellow Rose Divers. I'm sure you knew those guys.
Anyway, no hard feelings, again, just shooting the breeze here, no biggie (and sorry for the derail, folks!)

No norte today; there is plenty of boat traffic visible on the webcams. It looks like a beautiful day in paradise. I wish I were there.
Well, it was sunny at least. But the boat trip was freezing cold. Everyone took one of the parkas that were offered, going and coming.

la caleta was the only smooth part of the trip. vis was fair at cedral, santa rosa and tormientos. current was moderate to strong and the lion fish were hiding. tomorrow is supposed to be marginally better but I'm not sure the waves will have a chance to settle much just because the wind is down to a forecast 9 out of the NNE. it may take another day to settle out but we fly home on saturday. It's been a swell 2 weeks. Today was dive 100 but we didn't get naked for it.

we saw 5 in one spot on new years day on a shore dive in front of playa corona but alas no spear that day.

That sounds like drysuit weather to me!

Actually, in the water it is not bad at all. It is just in the transition from wet suit to one of our warm parkas that the chill really hurts. If you don't have something dry and warm to slip into quickly its ugly.
