Is it me or, as I get older, is the same temp water getting colder? It just seems like 70 degree water when I was 16 now seems like 60.........is it me or what?

OK I must admit I'm a old guy (52)........but active. Let me know your thoughts.

My husband feels the same way :) He's 48 and balked when I mentioned Ohio check-outs in late March (water will be 45-ish) and we dive dry ;) Luckily he doesn't mind when I dive with other guys--if it's cold water I think he prefers I dive with anyone but him LOL! That's what he gets for marrying someone 10 years younger :D

I know how you feel. I've started to wear my drysuit in weather that makes people laugh at me.

Yeah, age will be part of it but how many dives you got? (There is a place on your Dive Info for that, so you'll get better comments. :D) I did my 250+ in the last 4 years, and while I haven't aged all that much in that time, my chill factor has increased dramatically.

As we learn to move around less to burn less air, we burn fewer calories and chill more easily. The really good divers our age get cold the fastest. ;)

I spent most of my childhood in San Diego, swimming happily in 60 degree water. In late summer, it often warmed to 70, which seemed positively balmy. Now, at the age of 34, 70 chills me to the bone, and 60 is right out. I just think it's because our metabolisms slow down, so that inner furnace doesn't do the job like it used to.

I'm 55 and do a lot of diving in 72 degree water, Tampa aquarium, generally several times a week. In the beginning I was cold but find that if I dive on a regular basis the cold water is easier to handle. Working I don't even notice it. We wear 5 mill suits and generally spend about an hour in the water. Just dive more, add neoprene or go to a dry suit.

So I see a common.............old and slow.........cold...........young and flexible.........warm. Ohhhh to be 21 again.

Actually Don has it on the head.........as I move less I get cold easier. It is nice living is cold weather and getting up each morning in 20ish temps but for some reason when I hit the cold water ....oooooooooooooo man its cold.

Any other thoughts?

Happy diving
