but in the 52+ weeks I have spent there, I have also worked directly for the Island government (that's where the + comes in on my number of weeks). I have gotten off CCV's private island quite a bit, done a lot of driving, piloted any number of boats, unloaded a lot of cargo. I know the guts of the place pretty well.

I have dived all over the world, from the Indian Ocean, Africa, the Red Sea, Europe, the Med, all over the South Pacific and been off of just about every rock in the Caribbean. Most ever Caribbean Liveaboard. Truk in the 70's and in Mexican overheads a month later.

"Caribbean's top 3" I tend to agree. The problem seems to be you (RM) often make Roatan and CCV sound like the only places that are worth visiting. I respect his opinion but just like mine, it's only an opinion. Just try to be a little more open minded, let others give their opinion without trying to tear them down when they don't agree with yours. This isn't a contest, it's an attempt to help fellow divers find the best place for them. Like it or not that might not be CCV or even Roatan.

I have said many times that Roatan is one of my favorite places in the Caribbean. I'm not sure what is considered the Caribbean but I like Little Cayman even more and I like Bonaire a lot. It just depends on what a person is looking for.

CCV is fine for people that enjoy the things you've described so well so many times. I personally don't like the number of divers they sometimes cram onto their large boats. I don't like the old motel feeling of the place. I don't like their "beach". That doesn't mean it isnt' a great place for some. I hope that divers that chose CCV continue to enjoy it there and I'll continue to enjoy several resorts including CCV and continue to get a variety of diving on Roatan and other beautiful places.

If I want to eat, sleep and dive, I'll choose a live aboard over any resort anytime. What could be easier or more fun. The Utila Aggressor is a great one and a great value. You'll dive the best of Roatan and Utila.

When were you with her? I have heard conflicting reports as to whether they really move her much from week to week. It makes me think to ask that because I really enjoyed diving around Swan (aka Cisne), North of Roatan. When the BI Aggressor tried to get there, I was more than excited. Is the UAgg getting to Cayos Cochinos or Guanaja?

No, I have always stated that there are other great things in the Caribbean, it all depends on which of my posts you might read.

I like your top 3 list, too. If we went Top 5+ would add to it Northern Tobago and the Northern barrier islands of Grenada. Los Roques, West of Isla Margaritte Venezuala are difficult now that the Hughes ship is gone.

You really can't do better than Bonaire. As CCV is my favorite dive resort, Bonaire is my favorite dive island. Bonaire has great weather, viz, the drive-to shore dives, and the food can't be beat. Downside? No decent resort based shore dives remain and a pita to get there. The rest of the island's offerings more than makes up for it.

There's a lot of good stuff out there, most of it is hard to get to- that's why I am always talking Roatan. It's easy to fly in, fairly cheap in all respects, and the diving is still good- but don't wait too long.

That's why I keep banging the drum for the Bay Islands. It is developed enough right now to receive an influx of visitors, they will find it with enough developed infrastructure to make it an easy enough trip. Unfortunately, the speed of development and resultant siltation of the reefs make its days as one of the top Caribbean dive destinations numbered.

See it now before it's all gone. Like I say, you shoulda' seen Cayman in the 70's.

I did the Utila Aggressor in late 2006. We did much of Roatan, Cayos Cachinos, Guanaja and Utila. This is one of the great advantage of a liveaboard. You can visit many places since much of the travel is at night while you sleep. We boarded in La Ceiba on the Mainland this time. We stayed in port in Utila on the final Friday night (I enjoyed showing my wife around the Island I lived on for 4 months) and then went back to the mainland early Saturday morning. Great trip I highly recommend it. They moved the boat to the mainland to avoid the trouble of and extra day delay of getting to Utila. I suspect it was moved from Roatan several years ago to reduce docking fees. Basically similar itenarary of the old Bay Islands Aggressor though I don't remember visting Utila back then.
