I'm a Fish!
Dove this comp 8 times. Still getting used to it. Do not use trimix.
Two issues, One surface temp indicator is 15 to 20 higher than actual
temp.
More importantly, My second comp showed a max depth of 172 and the Cochran
showed 177. Big dif.
Has anyone else exp issues like this.
I am working with Cochran on this, but wanted imput
Not jumbing up and down with this comp.
Jim

Well, since OP seems offended by my comments on 3% difference, I am withdrawing my post.

Ok lets try this again. Please note if you do not have exp with Cochran DO NOY REPLY.
The temp indicator and depth indicator are off. Since I seem to have to explain how I know, while I was at 177' and saw my other computer show 172 I cked others I dove with. My concern is not just this difference but also the temp and maybe what else may be off which would effect my deco. What I was trying to do is find out if other Cochran uses have had issues with this computer.
Please, DON'T WAIST MY TIME and others who may read this thread by giving a flip ans that does not ans the question.
Do not want to start or have any issues with any one on the site. I don't need a lecture by Mengor anyone else on what I should concern myself with. If and when I reply to a message it will be because I can ans the question being asked. I will not let my EGO let me messges get off the point of the question. I expect the same.

Well you seem to be a joy to have a conversation with.

I had a Cochran, did a ton of research on Cochrans as well...got some answers for you too.

Best of luck though, Meng could have probably answered better than I could.

Jim.... what has the manufacture told you when you asked them for assistance in your issue??

I don't have a Cochran and know only a hand full of divers that do....and I live in their neighborhood.

The depth indicator is not necessarily off.. Depth is a pressure reading NOT a linear distance measurement.. Different computers are calibrated to different standards..
Some computers use "fresh water" some use salt..
Ok now lets say you use salt water whose defination do you use, teh europeans use a different specific gravity than the navy so depths displayed (in the same units) wount be the same...

Now lets take the cochran.. Its different from all of the above.. Its depth is based on the calculated specific gravity of the water you are diving in.. The cochran can measure the conductivity (varying salinity changed the properties) of the water and estimate the specific gravity, depth measurements are based on that..

The temperature sensor is a differnt issue..

The difference you are noting is not significant

BTW I have been a beta tester for both the EMC-16 and EMC-20 so I have been using them for quite some time...

if you look at my profile pic, I have 2 cochrans attached to my chest (1 yellow, 1 black).. 1 of them at the time was one that I was bete testing..

Thanks for taking the time and your professionalism in giving an informed answer. Your type of response is what I was told I could expect from this web-site.

In your testing did you find any anomalies I should be aware of?
Have you had any issues the Analyst 4.01 software?
NY, miss some of it. I'm from Long Island, cut my teeth up there, cert 1973

I have 16 years experience with Cochran computers, and was one of the principal beta testers for the EMC20H -- we have years of experience with them.

1. Cochrans measure salinity of water and are not set in a "fixed" pressure transducer that can only measure meters or feet. As such your Cochran is to be considered the baseline for all your measurements. All other computers will be "off" Swiss units measure based on fresh water, Japanese / US units measure based on salt water.

2. It can take upwards of 10 minutes for the temperature to stabilize in water. Don't sweat it. If you put it in 55f water and it shows 65f after 10 min send it back for calibration. Surface temp is usually within 5f of what a decent thermometer shows, though I dont care because I use it to check water temp not air temp.

3. It will take you about 10 decompression dives to get used to the powerful features of the EMC20. It will also take you a good conversation with an avid user to really dial it in.

4. I use Cochran EMC20Hs on ALL my dives. OC, CCR, deco, no-stop. I probably own about 8 of them all together.

5. You have probably the most sophisticated dive computer on the market today.

6. Analyst software can be difficult to use at first. Then you will learn it's idiosyncracies and learn to love it.
