No, not their PDCs. It seems that they are one of the few still making a bottom timer only. Anyone have any experience with them? They are $299..... I've got the wife's Puck that I can run in gauge mode, but this could be an option... Anyone?

Nope, don't know the Cochran BT's. Using a Puck in gauge mode is going to be fine IMO. I am not sure what information is important for you on a BT. I prefer something that will also give you avg dept, ascent rate and temp information. I use a Scubapro Digital 330, they retail around $250 with a 1000 hour battery life.

Any device will work if they are reliable and provide depth, time and ascent rates. The rest are all "luxuries". I would stick with the Puck as it gives you what you need, no need for further investments.
