I don't know or really care if they upset someone. From some of the pundants I've seen I didn't think they had any real clue about what types of tracks or equiptment was what.

Generals may know military stratagy but when it comes down to it they don't work with the equiptment and may not know what it looks like. They train on how to deploy eq and forces and what those forces can do.

When I was in the army we had the ADC (Assist Division Cmd)which is a one star Gen who was giving us grief. It was close 5:00 PM and we were getting ready to go to the last formation. We were waiting on one the Sgt's in our section to finnish up with a track when the Gen came up and made a sarcastic comment about "Just how many people does it take to work on one track" Most of our section was there and of course the track's crew was there as well. Before anyone could say anything back a Spc 4 in my section answered back and informed the General that the Sgt was giving an improv class and for the next 10 min filled the Gen with more BS than you could imagine. When the General decided he had seen enough he offered congrats to the Sgt for his fine work and wished that there were more solders like us so dedicated to training and improving our knowledge.

As to the Britts and the SAS - during reforger in germany a group "captured" and American 2end Lt. They left him buck naked and tied to a tree, funnest thing I have ever heard of.

So if a brit made a fool out of a General over what kind of troops they were or eq they were useing it wouldn't supprise me at all. I don't think it would be to hard to do.

I don't know if the CNN story is a myth, but papers throughout the UK are reporting that BBC has been kicked off the Ark Royal and replaced by Skye.

The Royal Navy complained that the BBC (Bagdad Broadcasting Corporation) takes Iraqi claims at face value while doubting and criticizing British and American accounts.

soldiers, Brits or US, just don't talk that way to Major Generals. Also, you can't tell from a weapon who it is...if it's a Delta Force troop he can carry anything he wants.

Makes a nice story to tell at Labor [excuse me Labour] Party meetings.

Lawman once bubbled...

you would have though so, but then we don't know the people concerned, so who knows?

but a US soldier is highly unlikely to be carrying an SA80, when you have the M16/4

I know a couple of ex-SAS and my father is a retired Brigadier - yes they would! Especially if that ex-SAS man is someone like Andy McNab who CNN have trotted out on occasion.

Never saw it and don't think it is true though - but it does make a nice story.

I once overheard a CPO1 tell a Vice Admiral that if he was going to drive "his" bateau (boat) that way he was going to have to paint the Fu**ing ships side himself next time. The Admiral had decieded that despite the number of years since his time in command he would park the DDE in Sandiego himself. He must have bounced off the Naval supply pier 5 times. Our Cheif of the boat used to "dress down" senior officers on a regular basis. It was his freaking ship and the Cheif of Defence staff often described as "a f***ing idiot whos parents were obviously not married" First thing a officer learns is CPO's are really above them in the pecking order and they are to be listened to.
