A friend sent me this, have to take his word that it happened, as i don't do CNN.

Don't know if it would qualify for humor though, as you will see when you get to the bottom.

Not a joke.... Actually happened on CNN But funny as hell!

Experts with newscaster on CNN 24th March.

3 American experts including a former 2-star general, 1 ex SAS (British) and the network's anchor.

Footage of iraqis giving themselves up.

anchor: We have no verification as of yet if they are British or American troops taking these POW's

American 1: Only Americans wear boots like that, they're American

American 2: I agree, and they appear to have American camouflage jackets.

American 3 (General): I'm not so sure, there's not enough up-close detail to tell 100%, we'd need some close images to tell make of boots and jackets and maybe the shape of their kevlar headgear.

Ex British SAS man: Call yourselves experts? Since when did US forces use an SA80 as a standard issue rifle? Their DPM's can be bought as can boots so you're chasing rainbows if you want to identify them from their clothes.

anchor: I think you're right.

Ex SAS man: Course I'm bloody right. Any one with half a brain and basic military training worth their salt should be able to identify a British soldier by his rifle. Not to mention the fact they're covering all points properly, not shouting "woo yeah" randomly, and haven't raised a flag in direct contravention with orders.

At this point 1 of the Americans walks off stage tearing his mic off, and the anchor says "I think we can safely say the soldiers on your screen are British. Now for these messages".

jepuskar once bubbled...
I really dont think that happened!

like i said, i can't really comment as i don't watch CNN, but everything from "not a joke ..." is out of his mail.

it would be interesting to see if anyone did see it and they shed a different light on it

I am pretty certain this is a hoax. First, it appears on the joke file at http://www.jokefile.co.uk/peace/ajustwar.html

Second, I have never seen anyone belittle anyone else that way on CNN, so this would surprise me.. especially coming from a Brit. If they did, I'm sure they wouldn't be allowed *back* on CNN.. and if they're there in the first place, I'm certain said ex-SAS would try to avoid such. Additionally, I doubt he would be tooting his own horn in the same breath as making fun of Marines for doing the same.

Third, this 'transcript' doesn't appear anywhere on the internet (including CNN's site) except the joke file, scuba board, and a smattering of usenet postings.

Fourth, the proper preposition to follow "contravention" is "of," not "with." Brits are smarter than that, right..?

It may well be a joke but dont forget CNN is in the entertainment business too and that kind of drama is great for ratings. Gotta luv the SAS guy and if true I would lay odds he is an "other Ranks" not an officer. Sounds like alot of CPO's I used to serve with.

British reporters make no bones about getting to the point. I have listened to some great interviews on BBS. They have no problem arguing with the person or making smart comments back to a stupid responses.
After hearing an Iraqi say that "They are here to take our country"
and "They are here to take our oil"

The reporter asked" Do you think they here to take your gold and women too?"

After hearing some stupid answers that a so called "EXPERT" gave in an interview, this same reported stopped and asked the guy if he could give any good reasons why he should be introduced as an expert in the future. Basically telling the guy that he did not know what he was talking about ON AIR.

Try something more balanced, Fox News.

Sick of CNN, MSNBC,
Caymanaic:eek:ut:

Right now I am quite fond of CBC and BBC. BBC radio 5 live on the internet is a great service and they carry Football games too real foot ball not the dress up in Combat gear and take turns rushing at each other kind. :)
