Getting ready for my trip to Coz (heading down Saturday), so I have been perusing the weather sites pretty regularly. The wind velocity and direction look OK from what I have read on the board, but I was wondering if there are any general rules for when they close the port.

Could I look at anticipated wind velocity and direction on a given day and figure out whether a dive trip is at risk?

Since it looks like I am going to get exposed to legionnaires disesase, I am just hoping that the weather cooperates :D

If you are booked with a dive op that has larger boats, they may possibly still get to go out and/or look into Aldora taking you over to the other side to get your dives in, or head over to the mainland and take in some cenote dives IF you can get across on the ferry....
If all that fails, then take the sign to take a chill, kick up your feet and make the best of being on the island instead of at home at work :) ENJOY!

generally speaking we have port closures only when the wind is coming from the north or west. If they are light winds it is often not a problem, but when they are a little heavier winds they bring up big waves in the dive areas. That's when we have issues.

Thank you both - Guess I like the wind angle so far.

Looking forward to getting away from work and to the island!

The port closed here Wednesday morning and is still closed. We are hopeful that it will open so we can get in our last two dives. Wind was really ripping and is still blowing pretty good.

Should make these links a sticky for when the port is closed:

Call these guy's if you want to dive when the port is closed:
Aldora Divers of Cozumel
They have a US based phone number and a MX number if on the island.
There is always the Cenotes on the mainland or hang on the beach with a Sol. I'd rather be diving if I where down there...

Port closed this morning so far, holding for the 10am report, wx is improving slightly, otherwise I am heading to the Wild Side with Aldora

Then maybe another norte on Monday says the shop owner!

Not according to buoyweather -looks good for the next 7 days!

Only issue may be getting to the southern reefs on Monday - winds are predicted to be coming from the south and then shifting back from the east - which is perfect! :)

Port opened back up about 9:00am today - but we've still got rain, although the sun has been trying to come out!
