I've used Softscrub, toothpaste and the Mr. Clean sponge things (both name brand and generic) and gotten the slates clean quickly with all of them. Erasers work for me as well but seem to take much longer especially when the slate is still wet.
I've added a generic sponge thing to my kit, I was very happy with it.
