Just checking to see if there are any members of the Chicago Aquanauts Scuba Club in the house. I am a new associate member, and would like to know if anyone from the club posts here on SB.

Also, does anyone here have experience with this club and care to share any feedback? I discovered them through them through the ICSSD display at Our World Underwater, and through word of mouth, and they seem to be the only club local to my area of the burbs, but I would be quite interested in hearing about other divers' experiences with them.

Finally, if anyone else hasn't heard of this club but may be interested in joining, I would imagine the more the merrier, and it would be yet another chance to meet some SB posters. See website below.

Thanks!

I have been a member of the Chicago Aquanauts Scuba Association since I was first certified by them in 1973. The club has been around since 1960, one of the oldest in the area. It started as a YMCA club, affiliated with the High Ridge YMCA in Chicago. In about 1980 they moved out to the Northwest suburbs, where most of the members at that time lived. They are still a teaching club, but no longer teach the YMCA program. Most of their courses are now PADI but sometimes they have a NAUI class or two.

I saw that in the history on their web site. I actually have done business with one of the current officers a few years ago before he sold his shop.

In regard to Y instruction, I have a mentor who advocates multi-agency training and has recommended that I seek out a good Y instructor. Do you know any in the area? I was able to find several listings on Y's scuba page, but that does not provide the feedback I was looking for in my search.

Hi Gangre-

I am a member of Midwest Divers. I don't know anyone in your club that well, but we all bump into each other from time to time at various functions. Sometimes its manning the Illinois Council booth at OWU, maybe at the Underwater Competition, President's Dinner. Could be any number of things. The thing that matters most is that you enjoy the club and that you get to DIVE!

Have fun!

Julie
