Got the 2-Layer 250g Polartec suit. Ron said it is a little thicker than his usual 250g... Will be testing it in 40 F water sometime in april, likely. I did my OW course last year at almost the exact same time, in the same location where I'm doing my first drysuit dives. Last year I was wearing 14 mm of neoprene!

I'll dive mine next week unless I can scare someone up that wants to go before then.

TNRonin, have you tried it yet?

heck yes! Dove it today as a matter of fact. I wore the following from the feet up.
Socks
Lava core socks
Lycra pants
Wicking shirt
Lavacore vest
Garment

Water temps was 35*. I was cool but not cold at all. I made th ree dives today. the last dive was after a short SI. I'm very impressed and will probably be selling my evolution garment. Of note, if you dive a bulky garment the reduced bulk means you have to make some changes with regard to weight and buoyancy control. Venting was a nonissue on the sleeve. Mobility was greatly enhanced today. I love the garment and would greatly recommend it.

Glad to hear it went well! Whenever my drysuit gets in, i'm heading out too!

Interesting that you mentioned that this undergarment requires less weight than your evolution. I was wondering how thick these things are. Guess i'll find out soon enough.. Mine is in the mail.

I am still working with to try and get a custom size.....

I have the evolution garment to compare to, and my dive buddies this w/e were using the 4th element arctics. The garment compared to mine is quite a bit thinner, but just a tad thicker than the 4th element arctic.

About the buoyancy/thickness. With the evolution I would start to float at just about the armpits, with this garment I almost make it to my shoulders. At 500psi I can easily stay under or just below the surface if I want.

I was thinking of going with a thin baselayer for wicking, the 2-layer polartec garment, and some heavy wool socks. Basically the same as you, TNRonin, minus the Lavacore stuff. Water temps will be around 40 F. I am quite new to the drysuit, so I have no idea if this will be enough. Think it will be good?

Gosh, a lot would be dependent on your tolerance to cold. On the first dive I forgot to put my lavacore socks on and my feet, while not cold were cool. They also got quite damp from condensation. Once the lavacore socks were on I had no dampness issues on the socks. I wish I could speculate on whether or not you will stay warm with or w/o the lavacore vest. I wish in retrospect I had dove at least once w/o the vest.
