Seems a bit overboard to me, but I guess because a forced carrot works better for many people than dangling one.

I'm still optimistic for that they will stop requiring return tests....hopefully soon.
We don't have to test to return home as of April 1st.

Thats nice and how I think it should be for all. Still fingers crossed for my summer travel plans to be done with the testing.

Do you think that it is directly related to the mandatory vaccinations for air travel or just more of a timing thing?

Do they make you jump through any other hoops for travel?

So the requirements currently expire on the 18th of April. I booked our next Coz trip to fly out on the 17th... sigh...

Politically, I lean towards they will let it end for masking. The return testing is a different mechanism I believe so it will need different action, but it would make sense to do it all at once.

Covid cases in the US are unfortunately rising again. I’m flying into Coz on the 19th. Was kinda hoping that it would all be done by then.

This aint political. Just numbers. Welcome to my life.

If it were just numbers they would've set out conditions for each phase, and we would've had a more phased approach rather than knee jerks back and forth.

Really? Where are you seeing that?

The other thing is: Is what's spreading still nearly as serious as our prior versions? Thereby does it need the kind of reaction that Delta needed? Honeslty, I seems like we have SO many of the unvaxxed that got covid with omicron that we should be in fairly good shape right?

As the virus continues to mutate the measures needed to combat it have to change reactively. The easing of masking requirements in most places comes with the caveat that they may return if/when circumstances require it. I am happy to see the numbers as low as they are right now, but I realize that they could change for the worse very quickly.

Check again. Cases are 3% higher over the last 14 days. Problem is that no one is really testing any more. (Except to travel to certain countries and to re-enter the USA!). So real numbers are undercounted. Good news is that deaths and hospitalizations are dropping. That's even better news for the vaccinated and previously infected.

Given the case count increase, I doubt that the CDC will make any changes to their advisory and will simply continue with the theatrical testing regimen. I hope that I'm wrong.
