Wondering if its better to have certs from different orgs such as Padi O/W then Naui Advanced or Naui O/W then PADI Advanced

-->Would doing be better then if I just did everything through NAUI or PADI?
-->Does doing so possibly allow discounts (or are there no specials for say a PADI member)
-->Is it basically with 2 cards, you would only show your advanced card anyway so it wouldnt matter what you did the O/W in (assuming you completed advanced)
-->What do most people do?

Get an advanced cert from a GOOD instructor regardless of cert agency...you will be using those skills and that card. Only advantage to a cert like PADIs (not sure if others have caught up) is that your certs can be looked up online in case you forget your card for example.

Cheers.

Excellent response

Find an excellent instructor and don't worry about the agency:)

In addition - interview the instructor a bit to make sure thats the one you want to work with - if your not sure then keep looking.

If you use the search feature here you will find a substantial number of posts on this topic. I'm sure you will get many more here as well

Cheers

No particular advantage to spreading your training across two agencies at that level. It is not quite the same as doing an undergraduate degree in one academic institution, then pursuing graduate training elsewhere to expand your 'credentials'. I guess an argument could be made it is more possibly efficient to do both OW and AOW through one agency or the other (and for OW and AOW it is hard to suggest that one is conspicuously better than the other).

Can't speak for NAUI, but not with PADI. 'Discounts' might apply if you agree to do all your training through a particular LDS (be it a NAUI shop, a PADI shop, a SSI shop, whatever), but that is entirely a matter of finding a LDS with that particular approach.

Generally, yes.

I got my OW with SSI and am now getting my AOW with YMCA. I don't care about agency name is on the front of the card, so I just went with the instructor I wanted to use for the AOW rather than sticking with a certain agency.

What they said! And....

Pick the one that has the best emblem patches for your jacket.

My example was just hypothethical. Assume both instructors are equal. Just wondering if there is any advantage to having both agencies then just one

I do realize lower level Padi certs have had issues (quality stds) vs Naui, but overall Padi is more accepted.

The PADI AOW is basically one course and SSI has a requirement of 4 or 5? complete specialty courses. I'm not sure about NAUI.

All the major certs are "accepted."
