I suppose my claim that "most" Ops take SIs at beaches was more of my opinion than based on facts. Most of the ones I've been out with seemed to usually, but that's a small number of the many Ops on the island.

Well there is always a parking jam at palancar pier, so I am with DD on this one. There are even some opine trees like you mentioned, I think. And friendly racoons.
And my shared observations along those lines. It's all too common for divers wanting to go ashore or at least onto the dock to have to walk across another boat that was parked there already. We often stopped at Paradise beach on my last trip.

Going with my suggestion of a private charter, probably more easily arranged for an afternoon trip, there are a large number of good choices to contact - and discuss the specifics preferred. If it's your own boat and you want a beach interval, it will probably happen.

Don, I was just poking fun at wanting specifics. I think you are right that it is not rare to go to a beach for SI. But I'd suspect Ron meant a beach club (like Mr Sanchos) surface interval. Which I think the pier provides if you walk a bit, but to be honest, I've never bothered to go up on the beach.

A beach club surface interval is a mandatory requirement for my Cozumel dive experience. I have been on several trips where the dive op did the surface interval on the boat as well as one where they stopped at a location that was walking distance south of what I think is Playa Palancar.

If stopping at a beach club to sit, relax, enjoy the scenery, maybe eat and have easy bathroom access is important then ask if they stop at a beach club and ask which one. Aldora does as well as a few others but I never noticed a lot of other dive ops at Mr Sanchos. Nor did I ever see a lot at Nachi Cocom so based upon that, the number of dive shops that stop at a beach club may not be the majority of those on Cozumel.

So that's what you meant. I'm fine to break on any beach or dock, but sometimes it just not convenient to go ashore since the last dive and next dive are so close. Still, big difference from what you said before....
A benefit of using Aldora is the beach time surface interval.

Eat? On a 90 minute SI? Spare me...!!

Response: I was not clear before. This clarifies my previous response.

Response: Correct. About 90 minutes. It is great.

Looks like I need stuff here too.

Stopping at a beach club between dives used to be the norm until the owners of those beach clubs started complaining about divers coming ashore at their clubs, occupying chairs and using the bathrooms, and not buying anything (or very little). Truth be told, I was one of those people.

I haven't been to a beach club for a SIT in years and I don't miss it. Usually we go to the Palancar Pier; I like that just fine. There are always boats from other ops there, other divers to talk with about the day's dives, where we went for dinner last night, where we are going for dinner tonight... and the water I'm looking at is the same water I could see from a beach club. As I said, I don't miss it.

DSFDF and YMMV.

So right Gordon....What is sad is that there were usually plenty of empty seats and most often the divers that did take up a chair usually hung out away from the tourist customers. Yes, there were times that we used the bathroom, however, I would put bets that the divers that did visit the facilities be it the Bano or a chair did buy at least a Coke. More than not we were good for some nacho's and guac at least. Now...because of the greed...they don't get anything from us....Oh well, the stops at the pier are fine....visit with people and move on to the next dive. Double S
