I took a trip to Cozumel a few years back thinking I would dive air and save a bit of cash. I am very good on air and can easily go 60 min+ on most Cozumel dives. I immediately found my dives went from air limited (meaning running out of air) to NDL limited. I will have to float above the rest of the group and that sucked.
I think after day 2 I switched to Nitrox. This was on the 80 AL tanks. On the big Aldora tanks, you can easily push NDLs even with Nitrox. There is almost no point in diving with Aldora on air. ymmv...
I know people are trying to be safe and I get it. But personally, there is no reason to dive on an air profile and it will trim time off your dive.
Further, I'll flip the safety thing on you. If you are staying shallow above the group, the current will pull you faster and you risk separating from your group.
Try not to feed Trolls, particularly on the Aldora threads.
