Hello,

I have heard about a cenota on Cozumel. Does anyone have any information regarding this? If so, can you dive them? What operators take divers there?

thanks

The Deep Sea Detectives did a dive in a Cenote on Coz. The cave system was huge.

There did not appear to be local ops offering dives in these Cenotes. They were basically caves, and largely unmapped (read dangerous).

Maybe others will have more gooder information, but I can say, they are clear, they are vast, and they do exist.

HBDiveGirl and Kevrumbo recently did a cavern course on Cozumel with German Yanez of Yucatech. I talked to Claudette, and she had nothing but great things to say about the class.

I think Cueva Quebrada opens to the sea at Chankanaab park.

The cenotes in Cozumel are different than the Mainland (Tulum-Akumal-PDC). I have dove three different caves on the island with German (Yucatech Expeditions). After the hurricance the paths to these cenotes were very hard to find. There are very few people who know where htey are. They want to keep it that way.

The caves/caverns on the mainland have very large cavern areas where cenote tours are done. The cave in Cozumel have very small cavern areas(just enough space for 2-3 divers to do they valve drills & s-drills. I was there last March and the Cavern areas were still covered with debris from the Hurrciane that settled to the bottom.

I took my Cavern/ Intro to Cave in Florida and did my Apprentice and Full cave in Cozumel with German. I have done 25 Cenote Cavern dives on the Mainland. The caves in Cozumel were beautiful. I have known German for many years. If you want to know about the cenotes on Cozumel, see German.

I am somewhat claustrophobic, and it makes me a little short of breath even reading that. I did OK in Dos Ojos, but those dives where you have to take off your tanks and push them through an opening ahead of you... <shudder> That's not for me.

I believe Tony offers this service also. I remebered reading it on his website. This is the link. He has a nice write up about the caves and what you can see there.
