What a moray looks like when coming directly at the camera. Taken on Ghost Mountain.

It stopped within 6 inches of the lens, turned around, went back to the coral and then came up to the lens again.

My guess is that DMs have been feeding speared lionfish to the mutton snappers and morays. It might be that this one saw "Diver" and thought "Lionfish! Yum!" and swam out to see. Other than coming up to the lens twice, it wasn't aggressive and made no attempt to bite.

Once while diving in Cozumel I couldn't manual focus on a big green moray (I was looking through the view finder)
I pulled my head from behind the camera and noticed the moray was against the dome lens...a bit of a shocking moment.
