My wife and I are flying out Saturday. Saw two cuttlefish today. Not sure how the pics turned out yet. And a juvenile sanddiver. Will see if there is anything post-worthy this eve.

That would be squid, cuttlefish are in the Pacific as well as other Seas but not the Caribbean...unless someone dumped their aquarium full of cuttlefish into the Caribbean, ha,ha,ha.

DAMN..............just got an email from our (trip)leader stating due to lack of interest(usually 18 or more go) plans for Brac in early September have be canned....!!!!!!!!!! Crap, don't know what to do/where to go.......Wife & I may just go on---alone--to Brac...........hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

EDIT:.....WOW-----just got an email & NOW Dominica may be on the table, in November(lol where she was looking to begin with)......Wife & I have been('09) & would go back in a heartbeat---tuff to get to but once you're there, it's non-stop from 8 AM thru about 10 PM X 6 days.......It's an AMAZING little island with ALL KINDS of things to see/do topside after a morning of diving.......btw, it's where Pirates of the Caribbean Parts 2 & 3 were filmed.!!!....Oh well, just another fork in da road I guess....Stay tuned for future plans.......

I thought squid but someone else said cuttlefish. There were two and they scooted off when approached but came back when we backed off. Never seen that behavior with other squid sitings. They were also about 50% bigger than the squid I've seen.

Definitely squid in those photos.

I encountered that same behavior in them as well. It's weird. When they are curious about you, they'll let you hang out and stay relatively close. I honestly believe they are studying you when they do this. I've seen them in the shallows a lot in Cayman.

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cephalopod_intelligence

The cephalopod class of molluscs, particularly the Coleoidea subclass (cuttlefish, squid, and octopuses), are considered the most intelligent invertebrates and an important example of advanced cognitive evolution in animals.

The scope of cephalopod intelligence is controversial, complicated by the challenges of studying these elusive and fundamentally different creatures. Classical conditioning of cephalopods has been reported, and one study (Fiorito and Scotto, 1992) even concluded that octopuses practice observational learning.[2] However, the latter idea is disputed by some,[3] and doubt has been shed on some other reported capabilities.[4] In any case, impressive spatial learning capacity, navigational abilities, and predatory techniques remain beyond question.
