Might want to let things settle down at Catalina for a month or so-- and may 19/20 is super short notice for people.. Maybe early- mid June?

Ok Dr B, time for you to get back online :D
DorkDiveFest - Catalina 2007 :rofl3:
Perfect!

Mid - late June would work for me! As long as it not the first week of June!

I'm in for June 16/17 or June 23/24.

Dave

DorkDiveFest - Catalina 2007 Love it!

June 23/24 is my wife's b-day weekend and we're planning a surprise party for her (I could maybe make it the 24th though...). 16/17 would be better for a whole weekend (at least for us ;) ).

Just came across this thread...

Dr. Bill... I'm happy to hear that you, your home, and all your belongings fared well. I hope that things are back to normal for you and the rest of the islanders soon. Please keep us posted.

What a tradgedy! My prayers go out to everyone involved.
My Dad is a member of the Catalina Island Yacht Club and was scheduled to depart from LB this morning on the Express. As everyone already knows, he was going nowhere fast! He has been in contact with people on the island and as stated already only one house and several buildings have parished. One of the buildings lost was owned by Catalina Divers Supply and contained much of his inventory. I know all the divers hear in So. Cal are very generous and will rally together to help get this Island back to business.
For anyone planning to go there this weekend, I heard the Express boat would not resume operations untill Monday. Unless you have a private boat and want to deal with raining ashes, I would pick a differnt island to dive.

June 16-17 is good for me, but I'm gone the next two weekends on a motorcycle trip to Colorado.

Let's see what the locals say, but Father's day weekend could be great!

Hi everyone,

I just got back to my apartment and set my laptop back up. I packed up everything I could in one suitcase and prepared to evacuate yesterday afternoon but by 10 pm the wind died down and the fire seemed to be stalled out so I stayed on the island. There have been some big flare ups right at the edge of town today but the air assault of water dropping helicopters are jumping all over them. I still feel that if the wind picks up much more we can be in trouble again but for now it looks like the firefighters are getting more and more in control of the fires, at least the ones right here in town.

The word from Catalina Express is that no one can come to the island today but probably tomorrow they will start letting people (non-residents) start to come over. I plan to open the trailor at the Casino point as normal tomorrow at 8, so if anyone makes it here I will be there.

Oh, yeah that is true. Catalina Divers Supply lost our warehouse in the canyon. That is a huge loss. Our shops are pretty well stocked with rental stuff, but we kept a lot of extra stuff and all of the retail items in the warehouse.

We are glad you are safe! What do you think of the DorkDiveFest - Catalina 2007 idea?
Other suggestions on how we mainlanders can help?

Dave
Hoping you have calm winds.

Glad to hear that there were no serious injuries and that everyone got back safely. I live in Los Feliz and was evacuated on Tuesday night. It's quite a frightening feeling knowing you're leaving with all you can and trusting evrything will work out. Thank goodness we have the BEST firefighters around!!!! I'm diving in Catalina on Sunday afternoon for some nav courses (still scheduled as of today)and look forward to many trips this summer. Can't wait to go ashore and help the economy.
