Heading over to Catalina to both dive casino pt. and race in the Catalina grand prix this weekend. This requires me to take twice as much stuff! I bought one of the large stanley rolling tool chest. It's the big one, 50 gallons. It measures 23Hx23Wx37L Will I get grieft with it being over the 21x24x36 posted size restriction?

1) depends on which dock you leaving from and 2) what time you leaving. I understand that ALL the Friday evening and Saturday AM boats are booked up going over and Sunday PM returning the same...if then, they may make a scene. If not, you should be okay.

That's awfully close to the stated size limit so I think you'll be OK... but it does depend (as Dave said) on port and time of day.

Leaving Downtown on the last boat on Thursday. Coming back is the Last Boat Sunday evening. I've always carried by dive gear bag up the ramp and not into the cargo hold. Assuming it would be the same?

Gonna be Crowded Friday night and Saturday that is why I opted for Thursday night. First race is Sat. 8:15 Red Bull Catalina Grand Prix :: Motorsports Events :: Red Bull

...didn't get accepted entry, but may be goin over to watch. So did ya make the Barstow-Vegas ride? It was a cold one, lemmee tell ya! I was wishin I had a drysuit on!!

Downtown is pretty easy. Pretty much as long as you can get it on the boat in one trip up the ramp, and it'll fit through the gangways, you should be fine. You'd be surprised at the amount of gear we've hauled on that boat.

I use that box frequently but then again, I only leave from Long Beach and have never been challenged about the size.

I would think that since divers make up a large percentage of fares, Catalina Express tends to accommodate us a touch more.

+1 on what Dave said. We both have tanks mounted to the top of those bins as well and have never been stopped. I think as long as you get it up and down the ramp and can carry everything, they let you go. They just have us park them on the stern. Last trip they had me stand it on end to save some space.
