The hotel industry, a notorious hotbed of thieves and perverts.

LOL

Don't give up on Newark. There's a small motel at the NE corner of the airport that's heavily used by overnighting aircrew. Inexpensive, with a shuttle.
and stewardesses!

Never had a problem in Newark either but I do tend to park in the airport or off airport dedicated parking lots.

Do we have to start leaving our windows down in Newark now like Bonaire so they don't get broken?

Actually, I'm curious about that. @Kharon , did the rental people instruct you to do it one way or another (locked/rolled up vs unlocked / rolled down) and did you do it their way?

Every time I've rented a vehicle in Bonaire I've been informed of this 'rule' either 1) verbally, 2) in writing on the rental agreement, 3) a sign posted in the office. (Usually a combination of at least 2 of these) if kharon has had the same experience I'd have to be skeptical of that claim.

The point is that Kharon should follow these same rules at home and she would get the same great results she gets in bonaire. Simply leave your car unlocked and leave nothing in it all the time, roll the windows down too when the weather is good, had kharon followed this same simple advice that she finds to be no problem with while in bonaire she would have the same crime free experience at home

Might be a good idea for homes as well?

pretty sure Kharon is a he...
Gender: Male

I found it funny enough to leave it here. Another mod may not think so.

Leave you car windows down in Newark NJ? For a few days/weeks while you're away?

Great advice. Try it some time.

Good luck explaining that to your insurance company.

Sorry to hear that! We flew home via Houston, and though it was a long long day, flew home right to Ithaca. How was the rest of your time in Bonaire? I could not believe how much rain they had (and how buggy it was!)

Was sick the entire rest of the trip. 14 days there, 9 days ill - only 9 dives. Was still sick when I got home. Finally feeling better.

Oh yeah. Newark police are really worried about your stolen registration and EZpass. I assume that both are priceless and can never be replaced.

Call the FBI. See if they want to help. See if they'll announce this on America's Most Wanted.

Talk about ranting about nothing...

You obviously don't recognize wht is clearly tongue-in-cheek. With all the Bonaire bashing I thought I'd inject a little humor.

How did you get to park in front of the Ramada main entrance? Did you leave your keys?

They have a great big parking lot right outside the front door. No I didn't leave my keys. There was no damage to the door or window so my guess is that the thief used a jimmy bar to pop the door lock - just like AAA.

Actually (aside from the poking fun at the Bonaire bashers) the lesson I learned was that there are things in your car that you take for granted that you should remove when parking for a long time anywhere. I never gave a thought to either the EZ-Pass nor the registration. From now on, if my car is in long term parking, I will remove the EZ-Pass, registration, insurance cards and anything else I can think of.

Oh my. In retrospect that was hilarious. Sorry I never understood your brilliant wry style of understated humor. (Just like mine).

I talked to one shop owner that said it was the worst rain he'd seen in his 13 years there. We ended up considering the small tunes of bug repellent from Van Den Twills to be single use items. . .
