BTW, I had nothing taken, or even looked at, while diving on Bonaire. No incidents what-so-ever. Bon Bini na Bonaire!!!

Uh... did you leave out the part on purpose that you didn't leave anything to steal in the vehicle in Bonaire, plus your probably left the vehicle unlocked and the windows rolled down....

You don't know if somebody went through your vehicle in Bonaire or not

I guess I'm troubled that this thread was posted in the Bonaire forum, with a misleading title.
OP, you could have been anywhere; Bonaire is irrelevant. If your point is that while in Bonaire, your car in Bonaire was NOT robbed, that's cool, but that is a different title.

Actually, I'm curious about that. @Kharon , did the rental people instruct you to do it one way or another (locked/rolled up vs unlocked / rolled down) and did you do it their way?

Why would the thief take those items? They probably don't even own a car!
Registration has the home address on it. Thief knows someone is not home. Worth the gamble to them.
Pass, they'll try to sell it for $5 or whatever the cost of their next fix is.

People new to SB or its Bonaire forum might be puzzled, but those of us who have been following the many discussions here of crime on Bonaire, in which people voice widely varying perspectives of how bad or not bad the crime is, might appreciate the tongue-in-cheek title. I for one hope the mods are cool with it.

Have to agree, I immediately understood the intent. However, new users would probably not.

Yikes, I hope he didn't post this before he got home!

I'd say this is an important subject because hotels in the hubs attract customers by advertising dirt-cheap parking fees. We used this option during our last trip, when we drove to Atlanta in the evening, spent the night in Day's Inn, and got on our early flight with ease, rather than waking up at 3:30 am and leaving the car at the airport parking. The parking fees for 10 days were symbolic, but the downside was probably the same zero security as in the Ramada Inn case. Next time we'll keep this in mind.

I understood the post right off the bat.. In all my trips to NYC / Newark areas driving a tractor trailer truck.. Only had a few 50lb bags of taters taken once and one time they stole a few racks of pork ribs.. And that's going into that area twice a week for 25+ yrs... Never had a problem in Bonaire in all the trips... Except for the divers that rented the house we stay at.. Went through my stuff that was in the closet..They stole my dive light batteries and charger and a dive knife.. That about as low as a person can go.. Stealing from a fellow diver...

You got the money to fly to Bonaire and dive... And you steal from a box marked Jim & Frans stuff... I worry more about a diver going through my pick up then a local...

Jim...

Police not being interested is one thing but grabbing the registration to identify a possible larger target speaks more to an organized plan and should be taken seriously.

I recently used Uber for the first time going to the airport from my house and didn't feel comfortable as now someone knows that I am away and where I live. Food for thought.

How did you get to park in front of the Ramada main entrance? Did you leave your keys? If so, they probably moved it during your trip, parking it in some crime ridden suburban area. I've been flying out of Newark since God was a boy, and never had a problem of any kind when I left my car in long term parking.

I can't understand why you'd leave your car or anything else in the care of anyone in the hotel industry, a notorious hotbed of thieves and perverts. One of the hotel's owners probably has your stuff.

Don't give up on Newark. There's a small motel at the NE corner of the airport that's heavily used by overnighting aircrew. Inexpensive, with a shuttle.
