And if all else fails and you can't equalize it, DON'T DIVE. It sucks but if you are not able to equalize then you will cause serious damage. Inability to equalize your ears is not something that you can 'macho' through and just tough out. It is a prerequisite to being able to dive. Hopefully you aren't really having a problem or it is one that is easily treatable. Good luck.

There are lots of reasons why you would not hear one ear 'pop'. It may be because that ear doesn't equalize well or it may the that it equalizes so easily that you don't notice it on the surface.

To learn more about your ears and diving, go to;

and watch the streaming video, "The Diver's Ear - Under Pressure".

Many ear problems can be fixed, diagnosis and treatment require a good doctor, preferable an ENT who dives.

Good Luck

Thanks you very much for this website referral. I've had trouble (moderate) in the pool, and this has been a real help as I plan for my checkout dives. Thanks again for a really useful link!

This ScubaBoard forum has been a tremendous help to me and I'm sure a lot of other newbies can share my thanks!

You are welcome!

When I found that site I learned a few things from it and I had already been diving for more than 20 years. :D

I especially like the way he tells us AND shows us what is going on.
