Canon WP-V1 Housing!

The $700 Ikelite housing is an option. Bigger, heavier and more expensive. But it comes with a filter, handles better, more sturdy, and has mounting points for lights.

yup... my thoughts exactly. I am an Ikelite fan. It only weighs 10 lbs with the camcorder and battery inside topside and they are totally neutral underwater.

So are there any underwater WALs that will not cause serious serious distorting with the WPV1 case? It seems that the Epoque, Ikelite W20 and Inon UWL-100 do have the problem...

So you guys never zoom when using the WAL?

I tried my Inon UWL 100 for the first time today. Did not turn out all that bad underwater but topside

The movie was shot in the cold green water of Denmark. The current has taken its toll as to the steady shot I am afraid. No zooming and no post production.

Have tested the HF20 with the WP-V1 a few times now. Overall not too happy with the outcomes, but I know I musn't be doing it right (after seeing the footage in this thread).

Setup definetly needs weight to make it neutral, and a second handle for better stability. Overall a nice compact unit, I just hope I can get the hang of the settings to get better footage.

Hi there,

I just got my WP-V1. With the housing, an additional sheet is enclosed to activate the Underwater mode. Here are the instructions (camcorder must be powered on during the full procedure):

1. Remove SD Card from the camcorder

2. On the lcd panel, press the camera<>play button (the one on the right to the playlist button). If the single photo screen appears, move the zoom lever toward W.

3. At that point you are in the review pictures/shots mode. Go to the photo tab and select the SD tab (if you have one , not on my HF200) using the navigation arrows

3. Press start/stop (back of the camcorder), photo (top of the camcorder) and video snap (same side than the panel of the camcorder) for at least two seconds.

4. You get a message asking you if you want to activate underwater mode. Use the navigation arrows to say yes and press SET. Otherwise, selecting No will cancel the operation.

5. The camcorder will reset and automatically turn off. When it turns on , set date/time .

After that, the underwater mode can be selected in menu => exposure program => far right (portrait or something else) => press set to access other program . The underwater mode icon is a bubbling fish.

I just bought one from BH-Photo. I had looked for one for about two weeks. And every online site said "Out of Stock". I then started calling. Two places said they didn't know when they would be getting any. BH-Photo's site said it was out of stock also. I called them and they said they had it in stock. I got it in 3 days. You should try calling the stores. Prior to that, I had called Canon and they told me that the WP-V2 is not compatible with the HF200.

Stupid me bought the canon wd-h37 ii thinking that I was going to be able to use it with my WP-V1 attached. Bad idea.

Now I am looking for a Wide Angle lens that will fit on the outside of the housing. Anyone have any recommendations? I have a $200 budget for such lens.

save a little more and get the ikelite WA20 lens. It fits, it works, and you can add a removeable filter.
